SUMMARY

ASRC Federal Data Network Corporation is in search of a GOES Satellite Engineer Intern to join the team for a full year. This role involves working within the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES) satellite constellation engineering group under the Engineering and Mission Operations Support Services VI (EMOSS-VI) contract. The position, based in Suitland, MD and Greenbelt, MD, requires a solid educational background and relevant experience to excel in GOES satellite engineering at a high level of performance. The client is accountable for engineering and mission operations support for environmental monitoring satellites overseen by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Office of Satellite and Product Operations (OSPO).


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The GOES Satellite Engineer Intern will undertake various responsibilities including:

  • Validating flight operations products
  • Verifying mission operations plans and procedures
  • Analyzing trending data
  • Performing real-time troubleshooting and analysis during anomalies
  • Enhancing tools for increased reliability and anomaly detection
  • Developing and improving products for spacecraft monitoring
  • Contributing to ground system software testing and verifications
  • Providing on-call support for real-time operations
  • Engaging in regular reporting and internal/external liaison
  • Conducting training for NOAA personnel

Requirements


Qualifications:

  • Experience: 0 years
  • Education: Sophomore or Junior pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field
  • Strong communication skills
  • Availability to work at least 20 hours per week
  • On-site work at Suitland, MD NOAA Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF) with potential for remote work
  • Full year commitment

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of satellite ground systems and flight operations
  • Experience with Linux
  • Familiarity with simulator configuration
  • Some programming background
  • Passion for aerospace engineering
  • Internship or coursework in space dynamics and satellite remote sensing

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Standard office hours with occasional on-call for emergencies
  • Possible flexibility for non-standard hours or extended shifts based on operational needs
