Position Overview:
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), through its Office of Space Commerce (OSC), is spearheading the development of the Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS). This initiative is aligned with the directives from the 2018 US National Space Council's Space Policy Directive 3 (SPD-3), which mandates the reassignment of space traffic management (STM) and coordination (STC) responsibilities for non-military US space operators.

Role Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will be integral to the TraCSS team, providing essential technical engineering and operational support services. Responsibilities will encompass:

  • Administrative support
  • Program management
  • Engineering services
  • Mission operations technical support

This role requires a comprehensive understanding of space domain awareness, space situational awareness (SSA), space traffic coordination (STC), and space traffic management (STM). Candidates should possess knowledge in:

  • Orbital mechanics
  • Astrodynamics
  • Analytical methodologies in SSA/STC/STM
  • Satellite operations
  • Conjunction analysis
  • Data management

Engagement and Communication:
The contractor will serve as the primary liaison with the user community, coordinating with OSC operations personnel to facilitate effective communication and collaboration. This role involves:

  • Engaging with SSA data and service providers
  • Facilitating registration and utilization of TraCSS
  • Gathering user feedback for continuous improvement

Furthermore, the contractor will interact with governmental and commercial stakeholders to address operational challenges, data needs, and organizational roles.

Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a BS Degree in Engineering, Physics/Astronomy, Computer Science, or a related discipline, along with:

  • 6 years of experience in flight dynamics or orbital mechanics
  • Alternatively, an A.S. Degree with 3-8 years of relevant experience

An active Secret Clearance is mandatory for this position.
