Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer (CECO)

Type of Position:
Part-time/no benefits (Initially 30-60 hours per month for the first three months, then 30 hours per month thereafter)

Reports To:
Chairman of the Ethics and Compliance Committee

Position Overview:

The Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer will oversee the compliance program for a company engaged in business primarily with the US Government.

The officer will ensure that the company adheres to legal standards and internal policies, particularly in the areas of ethics, regulatory compliance, and governance.

This role is critical in maintaining the company's integrity and reputation by ensuring adherence to laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive reviews of compliance policies and practices, including the examination of artifacts and staff interviews.
Develop and implement a compliance review plan that integrates with internal audits and supports continuous compliance throughout the year.
Assess current policies and practices, identifying potential risks and non-compliance issues.
Prepare detailed reports for the Ethics and Compliance Committee, highlighting findings, risks, and recommendations.
Stay updated with relevant laws and regulations affecting the company's operations.
Advise and educate staff on compliance regulations and the importance of ethical conduct.
Collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Qualifications:
Proven experience in a compliance officer role, preferably within a sector that deals extensively with the US Government.
Strong understanding of legal compliance and risk management as demonstrated through Ethics and Compliance training and/or certification.
Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the highest degree of professionalism and integrity.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Education:

Bachelors Degree :
Required in Law, Business Administration, or related field.
Masters Degree

(optional but preferred): A higher degree in Law, Business Administration, or a related field can be advantageous, indicating a deeper specialization in areas relevant to compliance and ethics.

Certifications:
It is preferred that the candidate be a certified professional. The following certifications are acceptable.

Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) : Offered by the Compliance Certification Board (CCB), this certification demonstrates a commitment to compliance standards and an understanding of various compliance processes.

Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) : While more specific to healthcare, this certification can be beneficial if your business deals with healthcare regulations and compliance.

Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) : Useful if the role involves managing data privacy and protection, particularly important in government contracting.

Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) : This certification can be pertinent if the role involves anti-fraud compliance.

Certified Risk and Compliance Management Professional (CRCMP) : Focuses on risk management and compliance in the IT and software development sectors, relevant if technology plays a major role in your business.


Training:

Regulatory Compliance Training :
Training in specific U.S. government regulatory requirements (like Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), etc.) is highly beneficial.

Ethics Training :
Programs that focus on ethical decision-making and corporate ethics promote a culture of integrity and transparency.
Pay Range
$100 - $150 (USD)/hr

The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
