Overview:

Under the guidance of the Vice President and Chief Development Officer, the Senior Officer for Major and Planned Giving is tasked with identifying, nurturing, and soliciting major gift and planned giving prospects to support Sheppard Pratt.

This role involves managing a portfolio with the expectation of generating at least $500K in the first year and a minimum of $1M in subsequent years. These targets will be reviewed annually.

Sheppard Pratt is expanding its efforts to serve diverse communities and is establishing a development team to ensure future growth.

This position offers a unique chance to significantly influence the future success of a leading organization dedicated to enhancing access to mental health care, a critical issue facing our society today.


Key Responsibilities:


Relationship Building: Proactively seeks to advance Sheppard Pratt's initiatives to address the needs of patients, families, donors, trustees, staff, local businesses, government entities, communities, national organizations, and foundations.

Maintains and promotes positive relationships with donors, staff, physicians, clinicians, and patient families.


Fundraising: Collaborates with the VP and CDO to identify major and planned giving prospects for the health system.
Engages directly with major and planned giving prospects and donors through personal communication and visits.
Actively manages their portfolio to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects and donors.

For planned giving prospects, provides guidance on current and deferred giving strategies to maximize gift and tax advantages.

Ensures that all planned gifts (current and prospective) are properly documented.

Initiates and oversees the creation of solicitation letters, proposals, and other cultivation and stewardship materials for major and planned giving prospects and donors.


Qualifications:


A bachelor's degree and 7-10 years of experience in non-profit fundraising, particularly in major and planned giving principles, guidelines, concepts, and techniques, are required.

A background in healthcare fundraising is preferred, with experience in mental and behavioral healthcare being a plus.

This role requires problem-solving and conceptual skills, utilizing data to make informed recommendations and implement major and planned giving strategies.

Strong oral and written communication skills, along with superior interpersonal abilities, are essential for effective interaction with a diverse range of Sheppard Pratt employees, physicians, prospects, and donors. The candidate must possess the enthusiasm and capability to articulate Sheppard Pratt's mission persuasively to potential donors and patient families.

Ability to meet deadlines, respond promptly to donor inquiries, and manage multiple projects is necessary.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and the ability to learn Raiser's Edge fundraising software is required.
