Sacramento, California, United States Department of Fish and Wildlife Full time

Job Description and Duties

Under the close supervision of the Fish and Wildlife Interpreter III, the incumbent coordinates the Classroom Aquarium Education Program (CAEP) region wide, develops and maintains partnerships with community sponsors, develops educational materials and resources to support teachers and students participating in CAEP, and coordinates with statewide CAEP staff, Office of Communications, Education and Outreach staff, other interpretive staff, and fisheries biologist staff to ensure the responsible, equitable, and effective implementation of the CAEP program.

Help us bring hands-on learning to K-12 students with the Classroom Aquarium Education Program This exciting program allows students to hatch salmon and trout eggs in their classrooms--an unforgettable learning experience. Your work year will be timed to the school year, beginning with program promotion in the early fall, and will continue through the salmon, steelhead, and rainbow trout spawning seasons, wrapping up when the last classrooms release their baby fish in late spring. You will work with program partners to develop and present teacher trainings for educators new to the program, and with the fly-fishing organizations that sponsor the classrooms to ensure teachers have the materials they need to implement the program. You'll work closely with an aide to receive and process teacher applications and to maintain an Excel database of all applications and authorizations and ensure that all forms and activities are compliant with program guidelines and with Department policies. You will develop and update a variety of educational materials and resources to support student learning around aquatic resources, and you'll write an annual grant narrative and report about your work. Communication and collaboration with other CAEP coordinators around the state and with other Department staff is an important part of your job, ensuring quality aquatic education and promoting stewardship behaviors in students.
