Sacramento, California, United States Department of Fish and Wildlife Full time

Job Overview and Responsibilities

Under the direct guidance of the Fish and Wildlife Interpreter III, the selected candidate will oversee the Classroom Aquarium Education Program (CAEP) across the region. This role involves fostering and sustaining collaborations with community partners, creating educational resources, and supporting educators and students engaged in the CAEP initiative. The incumbent will also liaise with statewide CAEP personnel, communication teams, educational outreach staff, interpretive teams, and fisheries biologists to guarantee the responsible and effective execution of the CAEP program.

Join us in delivering interactive learning experiences to K-12 students through the Classroom Aquarium Education Program. This innovative initiative enables students to hatch salmon and trout eggs within their classrooms, providing a memorable educational journey. The work schedule aligns with the academic year, commencing with program promotion in the early fall and continuing through the spawning seasons of salmon, steelhead, and rainbow trout, concluding when the last classrooms release their juvenile fish in late spring. The role includes collaborating with program partners to design and conduct training sessions for educators new to the program, as well as working with fly-fishing organizations that support the classrooms to ensure teachers have the necessary materials for program implementation. You will closely collaborate with an aide to manage teacher applications and maintain an Excel database of all submissions and approvals, ensuring compliance with program guidelines and departmental policies. Additionally, you will develop and refresh a variety of educational materials to enhance student learning regarding aquatic resources, and you will be responsible for composing an annual grant narrative and report summarizing your activities. Effective communication and collaboration with other CAEP coordinators statewide and with other departmental staff are crucial for ensuring high-quality aquatic education and promoting stewardship behaviors among students.

To qualify for this position, candidates must either be eligible for transfer or successfully complete the required examination:
