Under the general direction of the Accounting Administrator I (Supervisor), the Senior Accounting Officer (Specialist) is responsible to perform analytical duties which require an understanding of the Department's financial system (CGI-Advantage), financial reporting database (InfoAdvantage), and the automated time reporting system (Staff Central). The Incumbent will analyze the establishment and modification of projects for appropriateness based on the Department's coding structure, policies and procedures. They will provide direction to District Project Control Officers, Accounting, and Program staff related to project setup to ensure accurate reporting of expenditures to control agencies, federal and local entities.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Accounting Officer (Specialist) exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. Working Conditions

Position located in Sacramento, Sacramento County.

While at their base of operation, employees will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial light. However, due to periodic problems with the heating and air conditioning, the building temperature may fluctuate. Most employees will work in workstations within shared cubicles. Working hours will be set sometime between 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Overtime may be required, and vacations may be restricted during peak times and fiscal year-ending closing. This occurs for the month of June and July. Employees may occasionally be required to travel in state.

While we expect and promote internal transfers with the Division, for personal and professional development, we encourage staff to stay in their positions long enough to develop some expertise before transferring. Regular and punctual attendance is required.
