Responsibilities:


This position is responsible for providing administrative and analytical support for utility operations including compiling data and completing documentation for The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), Climate Registry (greenhouse gas emissions reporting), the monthly utility report, filing energy data in the EPA's Energy Star Portfolio Manager, responding to utility data calls, use and management of Capturis (utility billing system), and day-to-day operations which include assisting CommonSpirit Health customers with billing questions, account set-up and close-out, review of utility bills, and other utility administrative support as needed.

It includes working with hospital Facility Directors to submit documentation to carry out energy and water savings projects.

Data collection, management of large volumes of data, and analysis will be core responsibilities that will support the above efforts.

Utilities include, but are not limited to, electricity, natural gas, water, sewer, and fuel oil across all CommonSpirit Health facilities.

This position reports directly to the Manager, Utility Services in National Real Estate Services.

In addition, this position works closely with all hospital Facilities Management and other facility managers throughout CommonSpirit Health's large portfolio.


  • Responsible for producing the monthly electricity, natural gas, and water usage report, filing annual greenhouse gas emissions with The Climate Registry, assist in data collection forfilings with the CDP, and submitting annual energy usage to the EPA's Energy Star Portfolio Manager as mandated by applicable state laws.
  • Administers all facets of utility billing, data collection, utility data calls, and working with CommonSpirit Health staff to resolve issues.
  • Identifies utility administrative opportunities and problems and makes recommendations for process improvement. This includes regularly "cleaning" the utility database to find meters not being used, bills that are not CommonSpirit Health's responsibility, and monitoring late payments to avoid late fees in the future.
  • Identifies billing errors and works with utilities to correct them.
  • Identifies inconsistencies and discrepancies in how our utility bill management company collects and tracks usage and costs.
  • Works with hospital Facility Management to gather required gasoline, diesel, propane, and mileage records in support of CommonSpirit's annual emission calculationss and also using the data to support and upload energy usage into Portfolio Manager.
  • Supports the CommonSpirit's overall Sustainability Program within NRES with reaching out to hospitals to ensure energy and water projects are progressing and obtaining status updates.
  • Responsible for answering all Data Calls from vendors or internal CommonSpirit Health personnel to assess equipment and processes. Data Calls typically are requests for utility electrical interval data and annual utility bills. Responsible for developing working
relationships with Utility Account Representatives from various utilities.

  • Supports the starting and stopping of utility accounts throughout the ministry.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years' experience in energy, water, and preferably greenhouse gas management. Hospital experience a plus, but not mandatory. Critical thinking skills mandatory.
  • Demonstrated success with management reporting capabilities to meet organization goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a team environment and maintain professional demeanor at all times.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as General Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, and/or Business Administration preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and/or Carbon Auditing Professional (CAP) certification preferred, but not required.
Travel is limited to occasional travel between system offices, hospitals, and offsite departmental retreats (< 10%).
