Role

An education support class position involves tasks that are carried out following guidelines and school policy. This may include coordinating other staff in the work area or educational program. The role supports educational services for students without teacher duties. Certification and qualifications of up to three years may be required at this level. Responsibilities may include:

  • Specific support tasks to achieve outcomes.
  • Assisting teachers in educational programs.
  • Health and wellbeing support tasks and other specialized student/teacher support roles.
  • Technical tasks that require knowledge of technical or scientific principles.

An education support class position starting at the base will initially involve routine tasks under supervision. As experience is gained, tasks may become more independent.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for teachers including planning student routines.
  • Support communication between teachers and parents.
  • Provide basic physical care and wellbeing support for students.
  • Support comprehension of basic tasks and information for students.
  • Address immediate behavioral presentations in line with school policy.
  • Supervise individuals or groups of students.
  • Support teachers in coordinating educational programs.
  • Provide medical intervention support to students.
  • Offer specialized communication support for students and teachers.
