Department: Juvenile Justice

Position Overview:

Working under the guidance of the Program Manager, the Juvenile Justice Counselor delivers direct support to clients through individual, group, and family counseling, community outreach, and collaboration with various entities such as police departments, probation services, and community agencies. Young individuals engaged in the program are required to complete a specific program appointed by the Juvenile Court.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following. The organization retains the right to adjust these as needed.

  • Assessment: Conducts initial assessments utilizing the YASI assessment tool at admission and discharge, when applicable.
  • Service Plans: Supports clients in developing personalized service plans.
  • Samples: Collects urine samples as necessary for analysis.
  • Groups: Conducts group sessions by providing pertinent information and educational materials in a group setting.
  • Recreational Activities: Contributes to organizing and implementing recreational activities at least once a week.
  • Transportation: Provides transportation for youth to and from designated centers using organization vehicles.
  • Court: Accompanies youth to court when required.
  • Supervision: Engages in team and individual supervision meetings as needed.
  • External Relationships: Maintains regular contact with probation officers. Establishes beneficial relationships with relevant sources for the benefit of the client and agency.
  • Interagency Relationships: Collaborates with colleagues within and outside the organization to enhance client services.
  • Quality Improvement: Participates in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Diversity/Cultural Awareness: Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
  • HIPAA: Full access to client information. Confidentiality is paramount.
  • Other Functions: May be assigned additional responsibilities at the organization's discretion.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited university preferred; High school diploma or GED required with a minimum of 2 years of experience working with at-risk young individuals. Previous experience working with at-risk youth and families is advantageous.
