Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

CSG is actively looking for a Senior Land Surveyor/Technical Reviewer to join our Bay Area Survey & Mapping Division. We are an employee-owned company that offers competitive salaries, excellent training and development opportunities, as well as remote work options. When you need to work in the office, you can choose to work from our offices in Foster City, San Jose, or Pleasanton.

Responsibilities for this role include conducting general mapping reviews for Public Agency clients. It mainly involves office survey work with flexible hours for remote work. Specific tasks include reviewing final maps, parcel maps, plats, and legal descriptions. You may also need to prepare redlines, written comments, and ensure quality control. The projects range from small to large subdivisions, lot line adjustments, and various land transactions throughout California.

Other key responsibilities involve:

  • Providing advice on complex private land development matters to public agency clients
  • Directly coordinating with Public Works Directors, City Engineers, and City Attorneys
  • Training and mentoring staff members
  • Occasionally overseeing topographic and boundary surveys in the Bay Area

Except for occasional on-site meetings, the position can be performed entirely remotely, including mapping reviews and office survey work.

This position is on an as-needed basis, requiring a minimum of 4 hours per week, up to a maximum of 29 hours per week. Work hours are determined weekly based on your availability.

REQUIREMENTS

  • California PLS license
  • 10+ years of surveying experience; or 5+ years in a similar role as a Contract City Surveyor/Technical Reviewer
  • Prior experience in a supervisory capacity, training, and mentoring
  • Thorough knowledge of the California Subdivision Map Act and Professional Land Surveyor's Act
  • Strong understanding of boundary control, interpreting land records, and title information
  • Experience in preparing and reviewing legal descriptions, plats, maps, and easements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid California driver's license

HIGHLY DESIRED

  • Prior experience as a City Surveyor or Contract City Surveyor/Technical Reviewer
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Strong knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Experience with static data collection using RTS
  • Proficiency in processing field notes and electronic survey data
  • Knowledge of GPS RTK equipment
  • Ability to lead a survey crew and troubleshoot equipment issues
  • Aptitude in defining project parameters and scopes of work
