Position Summary:

The ABWK Facilitator will offer direct support to ABWK Site Supervisors, Construction Assistants, ABWK volunteers, and homeowners involved in the painting and rehabilitation of Habitat homes. Members are required to serve four ten-hour days per week.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Assisting Supervisors in preparing ABWK sites for daily painting and rehabilitation activities
    • Reviewing plans with Site Supervisors to identify necessary materials and tools
  • Participating in ABWK crews, carrying out various painting and construction tasks as assigned, working collaboratively with volunteers and homeowners
  • Leading volunteer and homeowner crews when designated
    • Assigning tasks
    • Instructing on proper material and tool usage
    • Addressing questions and providing feedback on assignments
  • Engaging in AmeriCorps-related activities as instructed
    • Attending orientation at the start of service
    • Participating in planned affiliate, program, and statewide AmeriCorps events
Essential Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or a lawful permanent resident
  • Completion of high school or possession of a GED
  • Holder of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Successful completion of background, sex offender, and FBI fingerprint checks
  • Providing contact details for one professional reference
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic and readiness to take initiative
Essential Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Capability to navigate uneven terrain, climb stairs, and work on ladders up to 40 feet tall
  • Capacity to bend, lift, grasp, reach, push, and pull materials and tools
  • Effective exchange of detailed information through verbal communication
  • Occasional lifting and moving of items weighing up to 75 pounds
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Aptitude to learn and implement safety, painting, and construction terminology, tool, and material usage, along with general techniques
  • Ability to train volunteers in basic painting and construction methods
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Capability to make routine decisions and solve problems
  • Adaptability and flexibility in dealing with diverse communication and work styles, assignments, and service hours
  • Proficiency in basic math calculations and problem-solving
  • Capability to work independently or within a team
  • Prior experience as a volunteer is desirable
Service Environment:

The primary work setting involves outdoor activities on existing homes, with some interior projects. Exposure to various elements such as dirt, dust, dampness, construction debris, lead paint, mold, extreme temperatures, warehouse and construction noises, fumes, and construction material odors is common.

Necessary Tools and Equipment:

The role may require the use of hand and power tools including a hammer, wrench, screwdriver, utility knife, tape measure, scissors, drill, reciprocating saw, among others, and appropriate safety gear.
