Director of Refreshment Operations (Gulf Coast)

The Corporate Director of Refreshment Services has the primary financial and operational responsibility for all branches/division within the company.

The Corporate Director is responsible for ensuring the customers experience with Five Star represents the highest standard and best in class service.

The director must develop and execute company operational standards while having oversight of the activities of division personnel.

Supervise and coordinates activities for branch Director of Refreshment Services with a strong dotted line to Vice President Retail Operations (VPRO) in each branch.


Key Performance Indicators (KPI's):
Customer Satisfaction/Retention, P&L Management, Safety, Employee Success

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise, through subordinate managers, all branch/division Director refreshment team operations.

Work collaboratively with corporate and division level management to ensure best in class service standards, execution, compliance, and profitability meets or exceeds company guidelines and budgets.

Must be able to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training refreshment directors; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; succession planning; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

The corporate DRS will notify a member of Senior Management of any information that would be beneficial concerning account retention or any actions that might jeopardize the business.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Visits branches and clients to maintain internal and external relationships and reacts to any comments, suggestions, or concerns for the purpose of account retention; actively assists directors of refreshment operations to achieve pricing and retention goals. CDRS will be required to meet regularly with the (VPRS) Vice President of Refreshment Services and other key refreshment leaders to discuss strategies and needs.
  • The CDSR will foster a strong dotted line to the VPRO in each branch to communicate and keep alignment of Refreshment initiatives. In addition, will work with the Refreshment "champion" in the small branches to execute operational initiatives.
  • Actively supports sales activities to include client presentations, refreshment events, trade shows, proforma development, and refreshment space design.
  • Coordinates and ensures execution of refreshment service operational standards, new products, equipment, and training activities in a professional and timely manner within all branches/divisions.
  • Analysis of refreshment location inspections and inventory audits to ensure company standards are met.
  • Leads training in the branch operations for proper handling of perishable foods, inventory controls in the warehouse, handheld capabilities; as well as analyzes financial reports to determine profitability and opportunities to increase revenue with proper merchandising, product introduction, and seasonal activities.
  • Reviews and adjusts service frequencies and structure with subordinate managers to maximize refreshment sales without jeopardizing customer satisfaction and to improve productivity and control labor costs. Works with subordinate managers on route averages, service tech call averages and prioritization, online initiatives, and accounts receivables.
  • Reviews refreshment reports weekly to ensure branch profitability, data analysis, route averages, and builds dashboards to support operations P&L. Ensures branches quality, cleanliness, merchandising, core products, seasonal execution and compliance of all customer service, company policies, and programs are maintained.
  • Promotes a clean and safe working environment and communicates Company safety policies and goals to branches; plans for vehicle needs, refreshment service personnel and warehousing needs.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Refreshment Services as needed for OCS, Water, and Pantry strategy, training, planning to impact the revenue growth and profit objectives the company sets.
  • Has an understanding and the ability to perform all job duties of a branch director assigned to refreshment services, warehouse personnel, and subordinate managers in support of refreshment operations. Supports these roles as required by operational needs. Stays current and abides by all parts of collective bargaining agreements, where applicable.
  • Schedules and holds regular meetings with DRS operations, refreshment service leaders, refreshment routes, location attendants and warehouse personnel to foster open lines of communication with direct reports. Confers with other managers to coordinate activities of the branch/division operation and attends regular staff meetings to keep informed and updated about current developments related to the Company.

Education and Experience:


Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university; and (5) Five year's related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Communication, Appearance, and Language Skills:


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; be able to write reports and business correspondence ,and to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customer s, and the general public.

Individual must have strong communication and negotiation skills.

Mathematical Skills:
Must have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages.

Reasoning Ability:


Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with multiple variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Must be able to review, understand and prepare budgets, company business proformas, operating statements and other corporate financial documents. Ability to make business decisions based on financial reports and similar facts.
  • Proficient knowledge of computer applications: Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook. Ability to become proficient in BOARD, Vendsys, Lightspeed, and any other critical system applications.

  • Must have the ability to present information to groups of clients, employees, and company leadership.
