Pay Range Information:

Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.

Job Description Summary:

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Prospect Research, the Prospect Development Analyst proactively identifies major gift prospects to support Chapman University’s comprehensive campaign and other fundraising initiatives. The Analyst is responsible for completing research and preparing short biographical profiles with giving and capacity analysis using a variety of sources. The Analyst also assists in maintaining the donor database, campaign planning and reporting. This role performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

Prospect Research

  • Review and validate data from mass database and donor screenings
  • Proactively identify major gift prospects to support pipeline development
  • Collect information from a variety of subscription databases, online public sources, and source documents
  • Analyze biographical, philanthropic, professional, and financial information to establish capacity, philanthropic tendencies, and recommend areas of interest for qualification
  • Mine wealth screenings, high-income zip codes regions, c-suite titles, board connections, school attendance, etc. to identify potential donors
  • Assess the ability and inclination of prospects to give at indicated levels for specific projects
  • Create short bios for prospects to be distributed to fundraisers and senior University Advancement leadership
  • Verify wealth, address, employment, and other screening data
  • Fulfill research requests in a timely manner, including requests related to capacity, biographical information, assignments, and contact information
  • Ensure research data, including bios and capacity information, is entered into Affinaquest in a timely manner
  • Review local publications to stay informed on current philanthropic activities in Orange County
  • Manage the news alert process and provide updates as applicable
  • Meet deadlines for projects, as assigned.


Prospect Management
  • Update Affinaquest as necessary to maintain prospect management data, including opening and closing relationship management teams and opportunities
  • Provide recommendations on possible assignment of annual and major gift prospects.
Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience
  • Ability to compile, review, and interpret multiple sources of information/data and draw sound conclusions
  • Willingness to grow and develop prospect research skills and abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work and interact with diverse people and levels
  • Ability to adhere to confidentiality policies
  • Ability to maintain careful attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent technical and critical thinking skills
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Strong technical skills to learn and use CRMs such as Affinaquest along with other office tools
  • Computer skills and the ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite applications and Outlook
Desired Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience in prospect research or a related field, preferably in higher education
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills; ability to draft clear research summaries
  • Knowledge of common research resources, including LexisNexis, DonorSearch, iWave, Propublica, and LinkedIn
