The individual in this position provides vision, leadership, direction, and supervision to the Student Affairs Department. The Executive Director coordinates the college’s student conduct system utilizing our Maxient reporting system, behavioral intervention team (BIT), our Professional mental health services, and student health and wellness activities. The Executive Director is the college’s primary point-of-contact for adjudicating conduct violations and providing training to students, faculty and staff related to student conduct and behavioral concerns. Additionally, the Executive Director serves as the Title IX Coordinator and coordinates college-wide programs and activities aimed at improving student safety, student success, and goal completion.

The College of Southern Maryland conducts background checks in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the College's staff and students. The College of Southern Maryland is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Specific Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:

  • Coordinates the college’s Student Conduct System and manages the Maxient reporting system.
  • Creates and submits weekly reports on Title IX, student conduct and other student affairs activities and services.
  • Develops and implements student, faculty and staff training related to student conduct.
  • Interviews and recommends for admission applicants charged with felonies and/or who have been dismissed or expelled from other institutions of higher education.
  • Investigates and adjudicates matters referred for disciplinary action.
  • Serves as a Title IX Coordinator to investigate, coordinate and adjudicate student-to-student and faculty and staff claims of sexual misconduct as needed.
  • Recruits and trains student conduct hearing officers and appellate boards.
  • Investigates matters referred for disciplinary action (including cheating and plagiarism).
  • Develops, analyzes, and communicates statistical information related to student conduct.
  • Advises and refers students with grievances to appropriate processes or resources.
  • Chairs the Behavior Review Team and monitors and responds to student behavior concerns.
  • Develops and implements training for students, faculty and staff related to student behavior concerns.
  • Coordinates the college’s student mental health services and student health and wellness program.
  • Coordinates education and outreach efforts with local agencies and service providers regarding protocols, communication, and referral services for students.
  • Researches and revises policies and procedures related to student counseling services, and wellness programs.
  • Develops and implements training of students, faculty and staff related to counseling services and wellness programs.
  • Assists with the implementation of college-wide efforts to develop and expand awareness and educational programs on physical, mental, and financial wellbeing.
  • Responsible for updating and coordinating the production of the Student Handbook and the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Works directly with the Vice President of Student Equity and Success, and others on college-wide projects aimed at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of student support services and improving student safety, student success and goal completion.
  • Provides leadership, oversight, and goal establishment for the Student Affairs Department.
  • Selects, supervises, and evaluates the professional and support staff assigned to the department.
  • Ensures that services meet the needs of both credit and credit-free students at all campuses.
  • Plans, develops, and implements departmental programs, including developing and administering Unit Strategic Plans, Unit Assessment Plans, and Unit Operational Plans.
  • Identify and recommend trainings, conferences, and workshops that educate and train faculty, staff, and students regarding BIT, campus safety, and student success.
  • Serves on committees as assigned.

    Required Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of three years’ professional experience in higher education.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • One year or more Title IX administrative experience preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
     
  • Working experience in one or more related areas, including but not limited to: student life, orientation, advising, mediation, counseling, student government, student conduct administration, academic support and/or civic engagement
  • Considerable knowledge of higher education or community college administration practices and principles
  • Demonstrated ability to perform project management, including the implementation of evaluation, assessment and report generation
  • Demonstrated ability to perform administrative functions including strategic planning, implementation of quality programs and services, as well as policy and procedure review and development
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out complex assignments
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to establish effective working relationships with a diverse population of faculty, staff and students
    Physical Requirements:
    The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
