The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Operations Command (SpOC), 19th Space Defense Squadron at the Naval Support Activity South Potomac (NSASP) is searching for an Assistant Technical Director (NH-0301-03, GS 12/13 Equivalent).

Description:
The 19th Space Defense Squadron is a new unit in the United States Space Force leading the way for innovation and federation in space to maintain freedom of action for the U.S., allied, and commercial partners. We are seeking professionals who will push the bounds of space domain awareness for the foundation of space defense.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree, STEM degree preferred but not required. Assist the Technical Director (TD) in the process of obtaining data in formats that can be utilize by the 19 SDS for the greater good of space domain awareness. Assist in analyzing data improving Space Domain Awareness (SDA). Assist with development of tools to locate, extract, convert formats, display, print, and utilize data in response to external and internal data requests, satellite catalog corrections, and all priority levels of orbital analysis. Establish background of understanding of all weapons systems utilized in Combat and Control (C2) mission. Collaborate with personnel at Space Surveillance Network (SSN) sites, other Department of Defense (DoD) assets, commercial, and academic sources. Develop innovative solutions and seek out resources resulting in optimization of sensor resources to mitigate unnecessary tracking of all man-made orbiting objects.

Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of the concepts, laws, rules, and regulations governing federal appropriated fund and NAF civilian personnel management.

2. Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.

3. Skill in conflict resolution techniques sufficient to interact in highly charged, emotional situations which arise due to delicate or highly contested case matters and determinations.

4. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing and establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel to include explaining rules and procedures to employees and advising on their rights and obligations and encouraging objectivity in situations that may be charged with emotions and assumptions.

5. Ability to encourage new ideas and innovations; manage human and information resources strategically and build coalitions to achieve common goals.

6. Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.

7. Ability to collaborate at appropriate levels with organizations both inside and outside AFPC, the Space Force, the Air Force, DoD and its agencies, and the Federal Government.

8. Ability to perform precision orbit determination updates to include manual differential corrections and other complex statistical estimation techniques.

9. Skill to perform a higher degree of space analysis of Earth and Lunar orbiting objects and SDA data sharing; research, analyze, interpret, and present data and supporting analysis to leadership.

Conditions of Employment

U.S. Citizenship Required This position is on-site and not eligible for remote or telework. Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret w/SCI clearance. Employee needs to obtain and maintain approval to access the portfolio of Special Access Programs required to perform daily duties. This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program. Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station. The employee may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft. The employee may occasionally be required to work outside of normal duty hours to support special space operations events or special orbital data analysis. Education from one of the following disciplines: Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Astronomy/Astrodynamics, and/or Engineering. Experience in one or more of the following coding languages: Matlab, Fortran, C++, Java, Python. PCS and relocation funding are not available. Please limit resumes to a maximum of 5 pages.
