Position Overview

The United Nations Foundation is committed to working with the UN, governments, and other critical stakeholders to galvanize the collective action required to meet the world’s climate and environmental challenges. Toward that goal, the Climate and Environment Intern will provide support to the Climate and Environment team on climate diplomacy, policy, research, communications, and event management until December 6, 2024.

This is a paid opportunity from September 16, 2024 through December 6, 2024, and offers an hourly compensation rate of $17.50 per hour for individuals currently enrolled in or recently graduated from (within 8 months of graduation) an associate degree or bachelor’s degree program; and $20 per hour for individuals currently enrolled in a graduate program.

Essential Functions
  • Work with the Climate & Environment team to research, monitor, and synthesize key findings and developments in the international climate and environmental policy and diplomacy spheres.
  • Support UNF’s work in food and climate, climate resilience, and ocean and shipping by conducting research and preparing materials on current and emerging issues.
  • Help produce a range of written projects for internal and external audiences.
  • Support the team through development of materials for leadership and other teams.
  • Assist with organizing and executing in-person and virtual meetings and events.
  • Keep abreast of climate and environmental news.
  • Other duties as assigned
Selection Criteria
  • Candidate must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be a recent graduate (within 8 months of graduation) of a college or university.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest, knowledge of, or experience in climate and environmental policy.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong professional interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
  • Must have a personal laptop computer and access to the Internet.
  • Must be available to work a maximum of 29 hours per week.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
