Berryman Institute — Administrative and Outreach Coordinator (AOC) (Program Coordinator II)

The Berryman Institute (BI) is an international organization named after Jack H. Berryman to honor his distinguished career in wildlife management. The institute is housed in the Department of Wildland Resources, Quinney College of Natural Resources, Utah State University, Logan, Utah.

The Berryman Institute is dedicated to enhancing human-wildlife relationships by better managing human-wildlife conflicts through research, education, extension, and outreach. We work cooperatively with federal, state, and private partners to identify and support research needs and evaluate strategies to better manage human-wildlife conflicts. The Berryman Institute also publishes Human-Wildlife Interactions (HWI); the only peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the science of human-wildlife conflict management.

The BI seeks to contribute to the development and management needs of the wildlife damage management professional, private landowner, graduate, and undergraduate students. We specialize in engaging with communities, private landowners, and individuals as well as federal, state, and non-profit organizations to implement, evaluate, and communicate innovative science-based solutions to better manage human-wildlife conflicts. These conflicts range from the management of damage caused by invasive and feral species to the conservation and management of native species and their habitats.

Scope
Perform a variety of administrative support and secretarial duties for the Berryman Institute and help the Director develop, implement, and evaluate an outreach program that addresses national, regional, state, and local human-wildlife conflict and wildlife damage management information needs.

Target Audiences
Professional managers and administrators employed by federal, state, and local agencies and nongovernmental organizations, urban and rural residents to include homeowners, private landowners, land managers, business and industry professionals to include land developers, and their agents, property management professionals, elected officials, and students including K-12, undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in higher education institutions.

Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities
The AOC will report to the Director of the Berryman Institute. This classification may serve as an administrative proxy in the Director's absence.
Responsibilities
Performs office duties, including answering phones, directing calls to appropriate parties, data entry, filing, calendar management, and other general duties as assigned.
Screens inquiries and requests; uses judgment and tact to prioritize schedules, calendars, and meetings.
Provides administrative support, including scheduling appointments, coordinating meetings/conferences, and planning and executing events, including banquets, receptions, retreats, etc., related to the management of human-wildlife conflicts.
Serves as a liaison with other departments and constituencies in the resolution of matters concerning the activities and operations of the Berryman Institute.
Composes and word-processes various standard documents, correspondence, and reports.
Prepares agendas, coordinates meetings, and transcribes meeting minutes.
Develop and implement a website that may include an ongoing series of webinars, podcasts, and training programs about human-wildlife conflicts and management solutions.
Represent the Berryman Institute and its programs at state, regional, and national meetings that are organized to assist stakeholders manage human-wildlife conflicts.
Establish and maintain a dynamic BI social media presence.
Work with the BI director and staff to identify extramural program support and assist in preparing proposals to secure program grants and contracts.
Work with the BI director and staff on program development, to include identifying and working with donors and partners.
Assess Bl stakeholders training and education needs to help develop programming to meet these needs.
Represent the BI as a member of the Wild Aware Utah partnership.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree plus two years of experience; or a master's degree in a related field plus one year of experience; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience and interest in coordinating administrative and outreach tasks.
Experience working at a land grant university.
Experience working with federal and state agencies and NGOs.
Experience in grant writing and marketing.
