Job Summary

The Utah State University Technical Coordinator (Program Assistant III) is a key position in the Northern Regional Office, responsible for planning and coordinating the day-to-day fiscal, administrative, and operations for the Utah Conservation Corps. This role requires strong leadership and technical expertise to ensure field crew members are adequately trained and prepared to work in a safe environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical, logistical, and administrative support to field crews.
  • Assist the Northern Regional Coordinator in supervising field crews stationed throughout the Intermountain West.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of conservation projects.
  • Support field crews with training, guidance, and constructive feedback.
  • Serve as a role model, resource, mediator, and advisor for field crews.
  • Ensure compliance with Utah State University, AmeriCorps, and USU policies, including enforcing disciplinary procedures when necessary.
  • Complete mid-term and final evaluations for all Field Logistics Technicians, Crew Leaders, and Crew Members.
  • Perform weekly check-in calls with field crews and approve member timesheets.
  • Supervise the rig-up (pre-hitch) and de-rig of crews (post-hitch).
  • Assist in securing lodging and accommodations for crews while on project hitches.
  • Coordinate with the Northern Regional Coordinator to support the on-call schedule and occasionally work weekends or nights.
Qualifications
  • Four years of conservation field experience; or an associate degree/technical training plus two years of experience; or a bachelor's degree is required.
  • Group leadership experience in a formal or informal setting.
  • Ability to complete physically demanding conservation projects in remote locations with variable weather conditions.
  • Basic word processing and data management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience developing and implementing field trainings.
  • Willingness to expand conservation and supervisory skills.
  • First Aid/CPR and a willingness to certify as a Wilderness First Aid instructor.
  • Trail-building experience and the ability to develop and implement training courses for members.
  • Chainsaw training and experience and the ability to qualify as B Faller.
  • Job offer is contingent upon a successfully passed background check.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Wilderness First Responder certification.
  • Trail building, layout, and maintenance experience.
  • Commercial pesticide applicator license.
  • Chainsaw fleet management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, environmental education, conservation, or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, conflict management, and partnership-building skills.
  • Advanced organizational skills and ability to use multiple data tracking/reporting systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience and comfort with speaking in front of large groups.
  • Program leadership, professional development, and mentoring experience.
  • Knowledge of AmeriCorps/National Service, community volunteerism, environmental education, non-profit organizations, and natural resource conservation issues desired.
