Washington DC, United States National Council on Teacher Quality Full time

DESCRIPTION

The National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) is seeking an Operations & Development Associate to contribute to our mission of ensuring every child has a great teacher. The Operations & Development Associate position is a hybrid role in which you will manage key aspects of the organization’s virtual office, support the organization’s fundraising initiatives, and serve as the executive assistant to the President--contributing to the overall work of sustaining the organization.

This is a perfect opportunity for someone who is skilled at coordinating calendars and event logistics with strong attention to detail; an ace at managing multiple workstreams; able to make connections between the organization’s priorities and funder interests; and an effective communicator. The candidate right for this role will have a strong commitment to advancing educational equity and excellence with a strong belief in the power of teachers.

**Note that while NCTQ is a remote organization, this position is based in the metro DC area.**

Organization Description

NCTQ is on a mission to ensure every child has access to an effective teacher and that every teacher has the opportunity to become effective. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is at the core of our work. Only when we ensure that students who have been long underserved by our systems—including students of color, students from low-income backgrounds, students with disabilities and multilingual learners—have equitable access to strong teachers and great instruction will we begin to dismantle the inequities that otherwise pervade their educational experiences.

We work toward this mission by engaging three actors with the greatest influence over teacher quality: districts, states, and teacher preparation programs. We advocate for smart policies grounded in data, and we champion those who are leading the way. NCTQ has a networked action strategy that leverages multiple stakeholders (education leaders, policymakers, and advocates at the state and national levels) to ensure our research leads to action and improves student learning.

As an equal opportunity employer, we seek to hire staff that bring diverse perspectives and experiences. Our work is dynamic and fast-paced, and our staff is passionate. This position will work remotely—just like the entire NCTQ office. However, this position is based in the metro DC area given in-person event planning responsibilities.

Job Summary

The Operations & Development Associate is responsible for managing many aspects of NCTQ’s virtual office, planning and executing in-person internal and external meetings, supporting fundraising and development responsibilities, managing the President’s calendar,  and performing other general administrative duties.  This role will report to NCTQ’s Chief of External Affairs and will also work very closely with the President and the Chief of Strategy & Operations.

Serve as a liaison to the Board of Directors, including preparing all Board meeting materials and supporting Board members’ participation in meetings and sub-committees Support NCTQ’s virtual office management and culture-building through tasks like ordering supplies for staff members and planning in-person and virtual staff events. Manage external communications with other policymakers and organizational leaders with confidence and attention to detail.  Perform minor accounting duties, such as organizing and submitting receipts for reimbursement for the President.

Development functions:

Actively manage and build NCTQ’s development leads list, including researching and qualifying individual and foundation prospects using various online tools and resources Develop development prospect profiles and meeting briefing materials Draft grant reports and donor stewardship materials, ensuring customization based on donor interest and intent

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree Attention to detail and and demonstrated proactive and strategic approach to daily tasks Strong communication skills and judgment with the ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality Excellent writing and copy editing skills  Works well independently and as part of a team Proficient with G-Suite, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel

Attributes of a Successful Candidate
