Scientist I, Cell Culture/Viral Vectors

Are you ready to advance your scientific research career? Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong work behaviors to join our team as a Scientist I within our Cell Biology team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to research projects with the potential to make a significant impact in the scientific community.

What will you do?            

  • Perform cell culture techniques (cell maintenance, cell screening, cell banking, transfection, etc.) for required experimental objectives.
  • Assist in the development of methods to improve production of viral vectors.
  • Learn cell-based assays and PCR methods to determine viral genome and infectious titers.
  • Work in a matrix environment to conceive, design, and implement strategies to address current challenges associated with virus production.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful implementation of research projects.
  • Maintain accurate lab notebooks and training files in accordance with relevant Thermo Fisher required standards to support patent application and defense as well as other international standards (e.g., ISO compliance, GLP/GMP requirements, etc.).

Education:
  • B.S. degree in Cell Biology, Virology, or related scientific field. 
  • 0-3+ years of experience with cell culture and aseptic technique.

Skills:
  • Proficiency in cell culture with strong aseptic technique preferred.
  • Familiarity with molecular and cell biology techniques including PCR, quantitative real-time PCR, d/ddPCR, ELISA, transfection, and flow cytometry a plus.
  • Knowledge of viral vector production systems a plus.
  • Familiarity with recombinant protein expression systems a plus.
  • Demonstrated track record of completing tasks within established timelines.
  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to support multiple projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interpret, summarize, and present scientific results in a clear, concise, accurate manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrate ability to generate new ideas, achieve results and solve problems.
