Northern Virginia Apartment Association (NVAA)

NVAA Mission: Founded in 1956, NVAA is a non-profit organization which serves the multi-family rental industry of Northern Virginia through active legislative advocacy and educational training events. The Association fosters relationships through networking opportunities while collectively working to promote the success of the apartment industry.

Role Summary: The Executive Director will manage and lead NVAA to fulfill the goals and mission, in tandem with the Board of Directors. The objective of the position is to grow the organization and its revenue by finding and securing new memberships, while increasing engagement on all levels. The ED will create and execute educational sessions (as proposed and curated by the organization's Education Committee) and networking events (such as the existing Holiday Gala, Golf Tournament, Legislative Update Session, and Fall Membership Meeting). The Executive Director will also lead and support the organization through effective collaboration with local and state governments as well as tenant-focused community organizations.

Responsibilities:

  • Create unique and aggressive Membership Acquisition & Retention activities
    • Identify prospective members and implement a targeted sales plan for recruitment
    • Conduct cold calls to potential new members, prioritizing property owner and managers
  • Develop strategic partnerships with members to increase engagement and attain sponsorship salesFollow up with members to identify strengths and weaknesses of the organization and events
    • Work with the Board of Directors to address all constructive feedback
  • Effective & Strategic Planning of NVAA's Events
    • Develop networking and educational events that achieve engagement and sponsorships
    • Plan and facilitate annual Board retreat
  • Maintain a presence on social media platforms
  • NVAA legislative & regulatory representation
    • Liaise with NVAA's state and local lobbyists
    • Attend and participate in various Northern Virginia committees and commissions
    • Develop and leverage contacts in local government and business organizations
    • Keep Board and membership informed of events and industry news through regular reporting
  • Plan and lead regular monthly Board of Directors meetings as well as committee meetings
  • Conduct office administration, including bill payment, membership communication, dues collection, database management, website maintenance
  • With the Board and committees, develop and manage the annual operating budget
  • Work with the Treasurer to produce and present monthly financial reports
  • Ensure local, state, and annual taxes are filed appropriately
  • Hire/Manage contractors within the annual operating budget

Desired Job Requirements

  • 3-5 years of Association Management, multi-family housing, or hospitality employment experience
    • Outside sales experience
    • Client retention experience
    • Administrative experience: accounting, human resource, local, state, federal filing requirements
    • Event planning and execution
  • Software expertise:
    • Association Management database(s) such as StarChapter
    • MS Office and QuickBooks
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with creating and managing annual operating budget

Start Date: TBD

Hours: Monday - Friday 9 am - 5 pm (occasional evenings and weekends)

Compensation:

  • $85k-$100k, depending on experience
  • Bonus based on exceeding revenue goals
  • 12 Vacation Days +7 Paid Holidays
  • Cell phone and mileage allowance
  • Health and Dental Insurance NOT provided

Work Environment:

  • Office Setting. Job requires long periods of sitting and standing
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license
  • Availability for occasional evening/weekend hours
