Job Description

About the job:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for financial and fiscal management aspects of the organization by serving as a strategic partner in finance, accounting, and actuary functions. The CFO leads and shapes financial programs to include financial reporting, budgeting, and capital management (through partnership with Montana Board of Investments). They oversee and manage risks associated with capital and resources, ensure the quality, integrity, and timeliness of required reporting, and ensure compliance with state and federal law and policies. The CFO ensures adequate controls are in place and substantiating documentation is approved and available for audit purposes and in accordance with GAAP, statutory, and state insurance accounting standards and laws. The CFO acts as an executive leader supporting the growth, development, and engagement of the department and organization.

Required Skills

What you will do:

Financial Management: Monitor and make recommendations regarding organizational revenue and expenses. Develops and monitors objectives and policies. Ensures maintenance of facilities and of inventory of fixed assets. Determines realistic goals and establish financial controls to maintain maximum productivity.

Oversee and prepare budget to achieve organizational goals: Oversee budgeting and implementation of budgets. Set direction on long term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with MSF financial goals, planning, and projections.

Reporting and projection insights: Provide projections and trend information for budget, capital management, and financial reporting. Anticipate financial scenarios and provide insight and strategy to proactively respond. Report on finance and actuary insights to executive team, leadership, employees, and board of directors as appropriate. Engage leadership on critical issues, trends, and changes in operating model and delivery.

Executive leadership: Support organizational directives through business leadership; emphasizing customer focus, strategic insights, and interdepartmental collaboration. Provide vision, direction, leadership, and support for finance and actuary department. Direct and lead controller, finance/accounting team, and actuary team in alignment with MSF mission, vision, and values. Support and lead projects and initiatives and project teams. Provide coaching and support to engage and empower the department and organization.

Required Experience

What you will need (minimum qualifications):

Required:
Master's degree in accounting, business accounting, finance, or related field AND a minimum of 10 years' experience as a senior finance leader/executive, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:
Previous experience in workers compensation insurance
CPA or other related professional certifications
