Position Summary

The Insurance Financial Examiner/Analyst Supervisor is a key supervisory role within the Montana State Auditor's office, responsible for the regulation of insurance companies as outlined in Title 33 of the Montana Code Annotated. This position entails overseeing professional, administrative, and supervisory functions. The incumbent will lead teams in assessing, examining, and evaluating insurance and financial service providers to ensure compliance with state regulations and acceptable practices.

In addition to staff supervision, the role includes training and mentoring team members, planning and assigning tasks, and evaluating performance. Supervisors are expected to possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and certifications to effectively manage and review the work of their teams. Attendance at out-of-state meetings and industry events may be required, including representation of the Examinations Bureau Chief.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following essential functions:

  • Evaluating the financial stability of insurance companies to ensure compliance with Montana laws and regulations.
  • Conducting financial examinations and analyses, assessing financial strength, internal controls, risk management, governance, claims practices, and underwriting procedures.
  • Supervising the licensure review process for insurers and service providers.
  • Mentoring staff and providing constructive feedback while managing hiring, performance evaluations, and employee development.
  • Reviewing proposed legislation and policies to assess their impact on the Examinations Bureau's responsibilities.
  • Participating in the customization of examination documentation and tax reporting software.
  • Overseeing internal audits of the agency.
  • Completing special projects as assigned by the Examinations Bureau Chief.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following educational and experience requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of seven years of related experience.
  • Certification as a Certified Financial Examiner (CFE) or a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
