The Director, Strategic Sourcing – Tech Ops will lead the teams responsible for American’s relationships with all Tech Ops suppliers within the aftermarket Components, Avionics, Facilities Maintenance, and Line Maintenance categories. Responsibility includes the entire lifecycle, including sourcing, procurement, negotiations, contract management, supplier relationship and performance management.  Reporting to the Managing Director, Strategic Sourcing – Tech Ops and working closely with the SVP of Tech Ops and their teams, the candidate will have the mandate to optimize cost, cash, and supplier performance, in order to maximize value and mitigate risk for the company.

What you'll do
-Lead three teams comprised of 12+ procurement professionals to define and drive the global sourcing strategy and plan for all Components including expendables and rotables, Avionics, Tech Ops Facilities Maintenance, Line Maintenance, and GSE categories.
-Work with Tech Ops Supply Chain / Supplier Management organization to define and manage cross-supplier performance management and cross-supplier governance structure. Manage supplier activity to identify and recommend methods to support cost savings, cost avoidance, improved efficiency, and an overall high level of performance.
-Work closely with peer Director, Strategic Sourcing – Tech Ops responsible for aircraft powerplant and aircraft programs to ensure optimal, value maximizing long-term strategies and handoffs between aircraft orders and long-term maintenance needs.  Support critical maintenance projects to assure they are completed on time and under budget.
-Research, analyze, and interpret the supply marketplace to understand supplier/market characteristics and identify sourcing trends/opportunities.
-Strategically develop and utilize supplier due diligence including scorecards, annual business reviews, reporting metrics, establish dashboards, and financial analysis.
-Responsible to drive supplier performance and manage supplier-related conflict resolution, escalation and resolution procedures.
-Collaborate with Legal and Sourcing/Procurement across supplier lifecycle.
-Lead overall performance of our contract operations and improve governance.
-Build strong partnerships and engagement with existing and new strategic partners.
-Lead strategy to enable us to deliver high quality, efficiency, and world class support for our internal stakeholders and business units.
-Drive ongoing continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality and cost.
-Support internal collaboration with Finance to secure funding approval.
 

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

-Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and integrity
-Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required in Business, Strategic Sourcing, Supply Chain, Finance, or related field
-7 years of leadership experience
-10 years of experience with supplier relationship management, negotiations, contract management, project management, and process improvement 
 

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

-Strong negotiation skills, with experience crafting strategic partnerships; capable of restructuring major partnerships when warranted
-Expert level knowledge and experience of the aviation Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) supply base, especially in the United States
-Action oriented, results-driven leader with a natural aptitude for engaging employees, colleagues, stakeholders, and suppliers
-Proven experience leading broad organizational change and transformation
-Demonstrated ability to solve, and to lead others in solving, complex analytical problems
-Ability to think strategically, negotiate skillfully, digest complex details, and use sound judgment and initiative in making decisions
-Ability to influence through outstanding interpersonal skills and build collaborative relationships with multiple stakeholders with varying points of view
