SUMMARY
The Senior Technical Writer in the Office of Inspector General (OIG) is responsible for providing expertise on all aspects of written communications. The Senior Technical Writer combines high-level research with technical/general writing, editing, and project management. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in audit and evaluation documentation, with a keen understanding of Yellow Book and Green Book standards as set forth by the Government Accountability Office and the AIG Quality Standards for Offices of Inspector General.

The incumbent will support the Office of Inspector General, specifically the Office of Audits & Evaluations. This role involves creating, reviewing, and editing comprehensive audit reports, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with applicable standards and guidelines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develops, edits, and manages written material, including audit reports, evaluation reports, annual plans, semiannual reports, briefing papers, manuals, presentations, and other high-level documents as needed. Ensures that work products meet the appropriate techniques methodologies, terminology, and guidelines provided by internal guidelines, Association of Inspector General (Green Book), Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book), and Associated Press style guides by reviewing and editing documents for proper format, grammar punctuation, sentence and paragraph structure, and use of vocabulary consistent with the aforementioned standards. Translates complex audit findings and data into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation. Ensures consistency, accuracy, and clarity in all written materials. Provides expert advice to management and staff on proper usage of the English language as well as principles, practices, methods, and techniques of technical writing and editing. Provides guidance and mentorship to auditors/evaluators and contribute to the development of documentation standards and templates. Understands, supports, and reinforces OIG standards for message content, consistency, clarity, coherence, and tone. Assists in identifying the appropriate communications vehicle and timing. Stay abreast of developments relevant to OIG's position on policies and programs. Collaborates with the subject-matter experts, coordinates the gathering of content, and assists with the writing and editing of responses as needed. Handles multiple projects and coordinates with management to prioritize work and meet deadlines with well-written products. Provides on-going quality assurance by reviewing the work performed to determine whether: The work performed supports the conclusions reached and is appropriately documented. The evidence obtained is sufficient and appropriate to support the report. The objectives of the engagement procedures have been achieved. The work has been performed in accordance with professional standards and applicable laws and regulations. Leads and oversee the implementation of the organization's quality management system, ensuring alignment with the 2024 Yellow Book standards. Proactively manages and monitors the quality of engagements, emphasizing the leadership's role in maintaining high-quality audit and evaluation processes. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the quality management system on an ongoing basis, ensuring continuous improvement.
