The Utah Department of Health and Human Services' (DHHS) Office of Health Promotion and Prevention (OHPP) has a place for you as a Health Program Customer Service Specialist where you can grow your skills. in this position, you will guide individuals (the general public) so that they can best meet their health needs. To be successful, fluency in English is vital as you will be communicating and speaking in various roles. Fluency in Spanish is also a huge plus. Previous phone triage experience is also very beneficial.

Health Insurance - Public Employee Health Program (PEHP):

  • 3 medical plan options. Choose a Traditional or High Deductible Health Plan. There is an Opt-Out Cash Benefit option for those that have other medical insurance coverage.

Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):

  • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.

  • Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System. 

    • Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))

    • Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.  

  • Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.

Paid Time Off:

  • Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).

  • Annual leave amounts increase with years of service. 

  • We have 12 paid holidays.

 Principle duties:
 As a Health Program Customer Service Specialist you will:

  • Maintain telephone coverage for the Health Resource Center.
    • Answer inbound calls from the general public,
    • Provide information on DHHS programs including CHIP, Immunizations, prenatal care and more.
  • Register clients for the Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program.
    • Schedule needed appointments with contracted clinics and health centers.
  • Enroll women in the Baby Your Baby Presumptive Eligibility Program.
  • Provide information while explaining policy and procedures and/or facilitating a resolution.
  • Enter data for all received phone calls.
  • Refer clients to other available services to meet needs as appropriate.
  • Any other tasks as assigned.

Notes:

  • With the exception of official business and/or prior authorization, you must be able to physically perform all work from within State of Utah boundaries. New and rehires have no more than 30 days from their start date to meet this requirement.
  • A Hybrid teleworking / in-office option is available after a 2-week in-office training period. All teleworking agreements are subject to change based on DHHS Agency needs.
  • Continued employment may be contingent upon the successful completion of a fingerprinting background check.

Working Conditions:
  • The typical office setting for this job is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. However, you may encounter some risks that are associated with any office setting, for example, the safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Standard Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. 
Physical Requirements:
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
