Working under the Director, the Animal Adoption Coordinator II manages and routinely oversees the supervision of the Animal Adoption Coordinator I and oversees the Animal Control Officer I as needed and a variety of part time employees and volunteers. This position is responsible for adoptions, placement, and outreach programming, and a variety of receptionist and secretarial jobs. The Animal Adoption Coordinator II is responsible for maintaining a positive image of the shelter with the public and organizations. This position publicizes the shelter's goals and programs.


SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES"*" denotes an essential function of the job
  1. *Supervises the Animal Adoption I and volunteers directly associated with adoption activities.
  2. *Has the ability or develops the resources to restrain, handle, and maintain any species that may come into the shelter's custody.
  3. *In conjunction with Animal Care Manager has the ability or develops the resources to evaluate animals suitable for adoption, placement into foster care, placement into rescue, or euthanasia.
  4. *Supervises animal adoptions including assisting the public with questions, mediates difficulties, is responsible for adoption approval, staff training, and follow-up of adoption placements.
  5. *Works in conjunction with the Animal Care Manager, Animal Control Manager, Floyd County Animal Rescue League (FCARL) or Floyd County Humane Society (FCHS) to develop and execute internal as well as external involvement of volunteers with our programming including but not limited to adoptions, off-site adoptions, rescue programs, and foster programming.
  6. *Works with rescue groups, foster homes, volunteers, and other necessary community
  7. outreach required for programming and the maintenance of a positive public perception of our agency.
  8. *Writes training and program policy with the director and implements programming as needed.
  9. *Responsible for the awareness and attention of the maintenance for the building and grounds of the shelter.
  10. *Educates adopters on appropriate pet matches for families, animal care and regulations.
  11. *Performs safety and census record-keeping regarding animal population and adoption.
  12. *Maintains safeguards on animal documentation of animals held, euthanized and adopted.
  13. *Monitors all incoming and outgoing animals for health and cleanliness.
  14. *Responsible for overseeing the process of identification of animals returned to owners from the shelter.
  15. *Acts as supervisor of other shelter staff in the absence of other supervisors.
  16. *Communicates effectively both orally and in writing with a high-quality work product.
  17. *Cross trains with other areas and provide assistance in training to staff of other areas.
  18. *Communicates effectively with Animal Care Manager and other shelter staff to aid in evaluation of shelter animals and in appropriate placement of animals.
  19. *Answers the shelter telephones and greets all shelter patrons.
  20. *Maintains responsibility for accepting animals into the shelter, obtaining necessary information, and completing all forms and computer records.
  21. *Stays current with national trends in animal sheltering issues and travels to training as necessary.
  22. *Assists in animal care and euthanasia as necessary.
  23. *Uses the computer daily for animal record keeping, animal processing, license record keeping and daily administration using the current shelter computer software;
  24. *Maintains records and sells animal licenses to the public.
  25. *Conducts training and maintains records on all Shelter Volunteers
  26. *Assists Animal Care Manager, FCHS and FCARL in issuing assistance vouchers to public that qualify.
  27. *Maintains records working with the public and animal control as coordinator of the Community Cat Program.
  28. *Maintains records and sells Dog Park passes and communicates with the New Albany Parks Dept.
  29. *Able to perform required end of day procedures; i.e. balance money drawer, secure building/area.
  30. *Coordinates activities with volunteers and groups such as FCARL and FCHS.
  31. *Works in conjunction with volunteers to develop and execute internal as well as external involvement of volunteers with our programming including but not limited to adoptions, off-site adoptions, rescue programs, and foster programming rescue programs, foster programs and community events.
  32. *Develops, implements and evaluates new methods to increase adoptions, public awareness and education on responsible pet ownership.
  33. Creates and promotes new promotions involving the shelter. GG. Assists in applying for Grants for various projects.
  34. Maintain and utilize all shelter electronic social media accounts such as Facebook, Instagram and/or Twitter in conjunction with the Animal Care Manager and approved by the Director.
  35. Performs other duties as assigned.

  2. Ability to administer community outreach programming incorporating volunteers to do so to maintain a positive attitude with the public and strive toward a positive public image of our programming.
  3. Ability to adequately appraise potential adopters to aid in a successful adoption.
  4. Ability to work with generally accepted methods of operation use judgment in selecting pertinent guidelines for adoption standards to ensure proper treatment of every animal adopted from the shelter.
  5. Ability to deal with substantially intricate situations involving adoptions, animal care and euthanasia, and must make decisions concerning the health and welfare of shelter animals.
  6. Maintain initiative to preserve the flow of work.
  7. Work under stress and with commitment to deadlines.
  8. Sustain interpersonal relationships which encourage openness, candor and trust, both internally and with the general public.
  9. Complete projects and/or reports in accurate and timely manner
  10. Maintain City information in a confidential manner.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  1. Ability to handle interactions with the public, often under trying situations and must be able to apply accepted protocol in dealing with irate or irrational members of the public.
  2. Exposure to animal related hazards while performing the duties of the position.
  3. Frequent bending and lifting up to lift 50 pounds.
  4. Ability to work as a team member.
  5. Display professional appearance, warm demeanor and positive attitude.
  6. Be a motivated self-starter.
  7. Work independently and to be accurate, efficient and organized.
  8. Manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  9. Work under pressure with time constraints in a changing environment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS
  1. This position requires working in both an internal and external environment.
  2. Occasional amount of time spent working outdoors and in inclimate weather (within reason and safety) to include: hot, humid, cold, rain, ice and snow.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
  1. Graduation from high school or G.E.D equivalent required.
  2. Previous work experience in the animal care and control field preferred.
  3. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
  4. A pleasant, friendly, and outgoing demeanor.
  5. Willingness to take on additional tasks as assigned.
