Summary

This is an opportunity to join a strong Chapter team and work closely with staff partners, local leadership, regional and national colleagues, and an outstanding group of volunteers to increase the reach and impact of the Greater New England Chapter. The Chapter includes a staff team of thirteen (13), a Community Board of Directors, and volunteer leaders who are actively engaged and passionate supporters of JDRF. Our Chapter proudly serves Maine, eastern Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

The Donor Relations Manager works in partnership with Chapter staff and volunteers to build a donor/prospect pipeline and manage designated fundraising initiatives. This position is responsible for a variety of comprehensive development functions that correspond to the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual and corporate prospects and donors. The Donor Relations Manager maintains and grows a personal portfolio of business critical to the Chapter’s success. In addition, this position will have responsibilities within the peer-to-peer, signature events, and community engagement areas of our work.


This position is hybrid, with a minimum of two days in the Wellesley, MA office. The position must be based within the chapter footprint.

Responsibilities  

Partners with chapter development staff and volunteers to work with individual prospects and donors to either initiate or increase involvement in JDRF events and/or giving. Generates new revenue with an emphasis on individual gifts and chapter-wide corporate sponsorships. Works with the Executive Director and national corporate development team to cultivate relationships with national industry partners and assist with the management and execution of national and local cause marketing campaigns. Partners with Chapter community engagement staff and volunteers to develop comprehensive communication and engagement strategies for families touched by outreach initiatives, and solicit local community engagement program (e.g., TypeOneNation Summit) sponsorship. Builds and maintains a personal portfolio of prospects. Avidly utilizes CRM platform (Salesforce) to track portfolio and moves management progress. Works with leadership giving team to qualify new leads through direct mail and online giving. Oversees the management and execution of chapter stewardship activities and stewardship committee; to include appropriately delegating stewardship initiatives to staff and volunteer partners. Consistently recognizes gifts in ways that are meaningful to donors, and ensures that all donors, regardless of revenue channel, have a high quality, increasingly personalized experience with JDRF. Develops an ongoing 12 – 24-month engagement and cultivation plan that will both enhance and work in partnership with current and future chapter initiatives and events. Identifies, builds, and stewards relationships with community, philanthropic and corporate leaders as an integral part of volunteer and donor prospect development. Adheres to internal engagement policies and guidelines as outlined in the National Corporate Partner Handbook. Partners with chapter staff to develop and deliver a Partnership Impact Report outlining all received benefits/deliverables. Supports and maintains the vision, mission, priorities, and values of JDRF. Sets and communicates expectations clearly and appropriately. Establishes and maintains departmental and organization-wide policies and procedures and supports regional and national directives. Represents the best interests, professionalism, and integrity of JDRF in all activities and relationships through a unified message of the JDRF mission and a commitment to organizational standards and leadership by personal example. Supports other fundraising events, chapter activities, and programs as assigned.

Qualifications

Three (3) years of professional fundraising experience, with a clear record of success in fundraising and relationship management in a complex, mission-driven organization. Passion for grassroots fundraising preferred. College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with volunteer management, including committee development and succession planning. Track record of success in donor development, donor stewardship, and soliciting and closing mid-level and corporate gifts. Ability to build internal plans and processes that may not exist within the current organizational model. Team player who can interface with all levels of staff and volunteers; high capacity to assess the value, importance, and/or quality of activities and people. Strong understanding of the moves management process. Ability to inspire, lead and motivate a team; lead by example as a player-coach. Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship building skills. Ability to build rapport with participants, donors, volunteers, and the public. Ability to develop, maintain and utilize relationships. Capability to leverage relationships and negotiate agreements. Familiarity with volunteer/staff partnerships. Effectively establishes priorities and works in a fast-paced environment. Highly efficient in time management and can meet deadlines under pressure. Ability to work on projects independently and have strong attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong public speaking/presentation skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint) and Salesforce or other database platforms (Luminate Online and Greater Giving preferred). Enjoys working on a team and is adaptable. Ability to travel within the statewide chapter footprint required. Occasional evening and weekend work required to support all Chapter events. Occasional overnight travel as needed.
