Stiles Machinery Inc. is seeking a Manager of National Consulting Services for its Grand Rapids, MI location. The Manager of National Consulting Services will work alongside the Stiles Sales Engineers and Product Specialists to consult with customers interested in obtaining and implementing products exclusive to Stiles Machinery. The Manager of National Consulting Services will evaluate the customer’s value stream and make recommendations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Support the Stiles team sales nationally; production equipment and automation nationally; Evaluate the value stream of Stiles products to customers; Make recommendations to the customer on the best course of action to take to implement Stiles machinery into their production; Process, application and implementation of software; Provide information to management regarding forecasting and substantial information relating to plans and reports of the project; Evaluate production processes and create strategic reorientation; Sales of consulting projects to customers of the woodworking industry; Estimation of project effort and cost calculation; Lead a team of engineers and quality check the project work; and Profit and loss responsibility of the business unit.

In addition to the job duties above, the Manager of National Consulting Services will manage two (2) Engineers who have a background in woodworking and furniture production. The Manager’s managerial duties and supervision of the Engineers will consist of the following:

Will plan projects and schedule the Engineers according to their specific qualifications and skillsets; Will make travel plans and set the travel budget for the Engineers, will approve/deny their travel expenses;  Will set the project budget and ensure the Engineers are adhering to it; Will coach and ensure the quality of the Engineers’ work product; Will set the Engineers’ compensation; Will create training plans and provide growth opportunities for the Engineers. Manager is responsible for profit and loss for the project, planning of income (sales) and cost; Manager will review profit and loss statements, present profit and loss statement to leadership and justify results. Take action, if necessary; Manager consults with customer to determine scope of project, then will develop consulting project plans and details to cater to customer needs, will calculate cost and sales price; and Manager consults on project execution with team leadership, specifically will discuss production costs to determine the sales cost of the project. Presents to customer to determine if that is in the expectations.

As the Manager of National Consulting Services the employee will work on and will be involved in the following projects and products:

Strategic production development, including planning a multi-year development plan for expansion; Will make technology recommendations relative to manufacturing, budgeting and manpower, and production cost calculations; Will spearhead cost and efficiency related production optimization projects: customer onsite workshops to identify inefficiencies in machining, material transport, process work flow, IT-work flow, production planning and sequencing, product review and improvement to achieve higher output or reduction of labor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have 2 years of related experience in the following areas:

Project management of furniture and wood construction elements; Consulting production software, including functionality description, evaluation of relevant options, and recommendation regarding implementation strategies; Production strategy development including: reshoring strategies, production feasibility studies, production automation and smart robotic production; Wood manufacturing product team management; and Project acquisition of consulting projects, including customer relationships and sales meetings.

This position requires local, national, and regional travel 80% of the time around the United States.
