Under general supervision, the Development Director is responsible for advancing the American Heart Association’s mission through the planning, management and implementation of assigned fundraising campaign(s) in collaboration with internal and external partners to achieve overall team and division/regional goals. The primary focus of this position is to procure meetings for new prospects for the American Heart Association's Kids Heart Challenge/American Heart Challenge program and secure registration for participation.

Responsibilities

Serve as lead staff member responsible for new school outreach in identified territories throughout the 10-state region. This includes (but is not limited to) researching, vetting, calling, emailing and/or direct messaging (via social media) cold calls to prospects at each new school. These prospects could be (but not limited to) Principals, Assistant Principals and/or PE Teachers who would be responsible for making the decision to participate in the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge/American Heart Challenge programs.

Actively drive new school recruitment outreach (primarily remotely) for 70% of the fiscal year and assist with scheduling Planning Meetings and/or Principal outreach for registered schools for 30% of the year.

Coordinate recruitment and follow-up procedures with identified schools with activities and targeted outcomes based on each part of the School Engagement Sales Cycle. For example, during the recruitment season, work with identified School Engagement Staff to establish a qualified pipeline of 25 schools each to schedule/confirm a recruitment meeting. Once a meeting is scheduled, schedule a meeting on the School Engagement Director’s calendar for them to meet in person. This process works the same way during the planning meeting season.

Provide coverage for vacancies and/or leaves of absence through primarily remote/virtual support to schools to ensure continuity.

Develop and manage systems, processes, and procedures at scale to establish and communicate support and implementation for the region.

Create and run reports from internal databases and systems. Ensure that outreach targets are met, and weekly reports are timely, clear, and effective in meeting leadership needs related to outreach reporting. Ensure accuracy and adherence to the latest policies and practices of the American Heart Association as they relate to fiscal and event financials.

Prepare and maintain fundraising materials, presentations, event collateral, and marketing material as needed.

Prepare and communicate schedules, meetings, and timelines to support internal communication and accountability.

Qualifications

3 years of relevant experience

Demonstrated track record in fundraising, sales or marketing

Demonstrated ability to recruit, train and manage volunteers with success in delegating and accomplishing goals through empowering volunteers.

Effective oral and written communication skills

Effective interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to develop collaborative working relationships internally and externally

Ability to organize and plan a complex campaign in a highly dynamic environment

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Ability to travel up to 15%; requires cost-effective access to travel across the territory served and convenient proximity to a major airport.

Compensation & Benefits

Expected pay range will be $63,800 to $85,100. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply. The American Heart Association reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range. This position is incentive eligible based on achieving certain targets.
