Position overview

We are looking for an experienced executive communications and media relations professional to join our team. You will bring communications expertise, energy and creativity to help our chief legal officer (CLO) and Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team find and authentically tell stories about Autodesk to customers, external influencers and employees through compelling speeches, presentations, meetings and written communications. You need to have experience working with legal or political organizations or for a global technology company. You will report to the Director of Corporate and Crisis Communications.

You will work Hybrid or Remote in San Francisco CA, Portland OR or Boston MA

Responsibilities

Develop and execute a strategic annual executive communications plan for our CLO and a media relations strategy for the GAPP team around key events/moments in collaboration with other teams including employee communications, public relations, and social media teams

Work with the Legal internal communications manager to align external and internal strategy and content for the CLO and GAPP teams

Work directly with our CLO and VP of government affairs, their chiefs of staff and key subject matter experts to develop the narrative arcs and create presentations and talks to be given to customers, shareholders, policy makers, and influencers. Develop ways to reuse this content with other leaders within Legal, GAPP, and in other parts of the company

Deeply embed in the organization and participate in meetings as requested with CLO and Legal/GAPP leadership, helping shape strategy, providing a point of view on what and how should be communicated, and debating that POV with direct staff

Build a social media strategy for the CLO that amplifies Autodesk’s strategy and narratives, particularly around trust and ethics, through creating social media posts, suggesting shares and ways to engage across platforms as appropriate

Work across the communications team, the Legal and GAPP groups, and with partners across the company on communications projects as needed in the best interests of the company and its employees

Support teammates on high-priority communications projects related to crisis response, and merger and acquisition activity, as necessary

You will need to be strategic, creative and comfortable debating and promoting your ideas

Understanding of Autodesk’s business and industries; legal or government affairs/public policy expertise

Experience developing and executing communications strategies, plans, programs and events

You will be a convincing storyteller with the ability to create compelling narratives to support our business strategies

You will need present with confidence which will build high credibility with senior executives

You will influence across functions, geographies and levels, and the ability to work with various departments and teams to drive alignment and collaboration

You will be agile, proactive, meet objectives ensuring quality and accuracy

You will use your attention to detail and project management skills

Media relations experience identifying and securing opportunities, building relationships, and preparing spokespeople

Focused and performance-driven

Occasional travel required

Minimum Qualifications

10+ years experience in executive communications, public relations or employee communications seasoned writer, with the skills to distill complex content into clear and engaging communications, and the ability to write with speed and accuracy

Experience using PowerPoint and keynote preparation and execution skills

Four-year college degree (BS or BA), English, communications or journalism; or equivalent work experience

Salary transparency

Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $137,000 and $221,650. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
