Role Overview :
The Computer Scheduler responds to Tier 1 and a few Tier 2 data center operational functions. Responsibilities included defining, monitoring, and responding to various alerts, alarms, and workloads across a variety of systems, in an enterprise data center. Systems include Windows, Linux, Unix, z/Os, and various network components, using tools such as CA7, Control M Scheduling Processing, CA11, TSO, SDSF, Orion, and others. The candidate will serve on a team that is the central point of command and control for a wide variety of IT systems and application support. This area is staffed 24/7/365. Candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced, and sometimes high-stress environment. Weekends and Holidays are covered on a rotating basis but are required.
This is a first-shift position. A typical schedule would be 8:00am-4:30pm.
Salary Statement :
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $40,;but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
What You'll Need for Success:
Minimum of a high school diploma or a High School Equivalency (HSE); Ten years of experience in computer operations working at a lead computer operator level, or equivalent IT job skills that translate. Must have good communication skills and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of JCL, ISPF, SDSF, CA7, Control M or another enterprise job scheduling package, TSO, z/OS, AF-Operator, JES commands, and a basic understanding of the JES2 functions. Working knowledge of mid-range systems: AIX/P570, AS400/I500, and Windows servers.
A Day in the Life:
Deliver excellent customer service. Maintain, create, and operate and sometimes document batch processes within the CA7 production environment. Follow documented processes, review system output logs, and make determinations on how to proceed based on provided instructions. When possible, restart failed batch processes to continue batch series, and if a solution is not apparent contact the application support analyst. Ensure the timely completion of the production cycles. Liaison between systems administration teams and customers to coordinate system maintenance activities that could impact the batch processing environments or other maintenance that impacts data center infrastructure. In some instances, edit production JCL and Parm libraries, as required per procedures. Password resets, after-hours triage for both non-production and production helpdesk related calls, open problem tickets, when necessary, escalating these calls to production systems support staff. Monitor network, cameras, and environmental controls. Complete regular walk-thru of the data center. Complete systems-related operations. This could include IPL, shutdowns, restarts, of mainframe and various distributed platform, and the execution of various systems-related commands for any system as documented or instructed. Communication is paramount. Keep both customers and management apprised of anything impacting the production environment.
