Role purpose:

The Additional Support for Learning Coordinator (ASLCO) has overall responsibility for additional support for learning (ASL) across CITB Scotland in a leadership capacity, reporting to the Operational Development/ Improvement Manager, taking overall ownership and leadership of ASL, ensuring effective support for learners with additional support needs (ASN), improving outcomes for all learners with ASN. The ASLCO will have a strategic overview of the provision for learners with ASL across all partner colleges, monitoring and reviewing the support being received and will be the conduit for all ASL information. The ASLCO will use information available to identify learners with additional needs and barriers to learning and work to overcome these by ensuring an individual support plan is in place and that adjustments and support are available where there is an identified need. The post holder will co-ordinate the provision of additional learning support.

The ASLCO will maintain an accurate ASL register, via the learner management system (LMS), identifying support needs and analysing data and trends, putting required intervention in place. The post holder will provide guidance to colleagues and stakeholders (partner colleges and employers) on supporting ASL.

Working with stakeholders and external agencies, being the main ASL point of contact for any external agencies and all stakeholders. The ASLCO will actively promote inclusion, ensuring accessibility and the best possible learner experience for all. The ASLCO will ensure that all responsibilities are met under the Equality Act in terms of reasonable adjustments and access arrangements. They will be responsible for ensuring that learner information is shared securely and safely, in accordance with GDPR Guidance. The post holder will contribute to the SAR, QIP, QAP and ASL associated policies. They will identify training needs for staff and how to meet these needs, leading on ASL continual professional development and training. The ASLCO will share procedural information, such as legislative and policy changes / updates.



Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

Accountable for the effective delivery, recording and evidencing of additional support for learning across CITB Scotland. Be aware of different learning needs and disabilities which are classified as ASN, and ensure equity is provided to each learner depending on their own individual needs. Develop and oversee the implementation of CITB Scotland’s ASL strategy, policy and procedures. Lead Additional Support for Learning Assistant/s (ASLAs) across CITB Scotland, schedule and deploy to best support learners with learning needs and to support stakeholders. Identify additional learning and support needs of learners from pre-sign up and diagnostic assessment and throughout the program. Formulate individual support plans to support the learners with additional needs and ensure the plans are shared with stakeholders. Maintain records and monitor, review and audit learning support evidence records in line with requirements. Coordinate with Apprenticeship Development Managers and Apprenticeship Officers with regards to effectively supporting learners with additional support for learning needs. Facilitate support for Apprenticeship Officers in the learner periodic review process, to ensure learners, partner colleges and employers are fully up to date with the progress being made.  Provide regular updates on learners’ additional support progress. Liaise with outside agencies as necessary and keep up to-to-date with developments and innovations in additional support for learning. Work closely with the Safeguarding and Welfare Team. Ensure CITB Scotland are kept up to date with CPD opportunities. Lead on ASL continual professional development and training, including the use of the diagnostic assessments platform/s and reports, including the interaction with learners and reporting on learner progress within the system/s. Work with partner colleges and employers to ensure learners have access to reasonable adjustments. Follow all safeguarding policies and practices and be responsible for fostering a positive, inclusive and safe learning environment where all learners feel safe, included and supported. Ensure that all learners work safely and always follow all health and safety rules and regulations.  Attend relevant workshops, conferences, and training sessions to keep up to date with changing methodologies. Always display positive behaviours and attitudes to colleagues and learners.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Essential:

Experience of working with learners with ASN Strong understanding of ASN and ASL, including legislation, acts and guidance Working knowledge of GIRFEC Excellent IT skills including Office Word and Excel English and Maths at National 5 Education to SCQF Level 6 Strong organisational skills and efficient with the ability to manage own workload Strong time management skills Confidence to advise and challenge on all aspects relating to ASL Excellent interpersonal skills Strong team player with the ability to support others Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams

Desirable:

Experience of apprenticeship delivery ASL Leadership experience Experience of designing and delivering staff training/development Degree level education Teaching qualification GTC Scotland Registration ASN Award or equivalent, or willingness to undertake Registration in Additional Support Needs Leadership qualification Coaching and/or mentoring qualification i.e. ILM award
