Learning Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Education Support Specialist to join our team at the Institute for the Redesign of Learning. As a key member of our educational staff, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic and personal growth of our students with special needs.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individualized support to students with exceptional needs, helping them access and engage with their curriculum and school activities.
- Reinforce lessons presented by teachers through one-on-one or small group instruction, reviewing material and promoting student understanding.
- Supervise students in class, between classes, during lunch and recess, and on field trips, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Collaborate with teachers to review daily lesson plans and contribute ideas and insights as needed.
- Work with students in one-on-one or small group settings to reinforce instruction and help them develop specific academic skills.
- Use positive behavior strategies, de-escalation techniques, and other tools to support students in controlling their behavior and promoting a positive learning environment.
- Document incidents and emergencies, completing necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
- Participate in special programs and activities with students as required.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for students, being aware of potential hazards and taking steps to mitigate them.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Pass a job-related health screening.
- Participate in and complete an in-house, 10-week training program.
- Access to reliable transportation.
- CPR and First Aid Certificates (can be obtained through in-house training).
- Clear a current background check through the FBI and DOJ.
- A current TB test (within 6 months).
- At least an Associate's degree.
- 1-3 years' experience working in education or with school-aged children.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
The Education Support Specialist will work in a dynamic and supportive environment, interacting with students, teachers, and other staff members. The role requires frequent and prolonged standing, walking, and bending, as well as the ability to perform physical management with students as needed.
