Job Summary

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Provides support in project management, communications, and office management with attention to both Battelle’s education and philanthropic work. The Tennessee STEM Innovation Network (TSIN) is seeking a Special Events and Communications Manager to lead the special event planning, marketing, communications, and storytelling efforts for the TSIN. This position will help develop and manage the execution of external and internal marketing and communication plans for the TSIN. This role will involve working with the Network Director, Network Relationship Managers, Network partners, and stakeholders to plan effective events and share essential information with the public.

Responsibilities

Lead Marketing and Communications of the TSIN

Assist with strategy development and manage the execution of communications and marketing plans for TSIN while contributing to ongoing communications and messaging by proactively finding story ideas and content to continually showcase the impact of TSIN statewide. Manage the creation and execution of TSIN’s social media strategy includes creating and sourcing all content and maintaining regular posting cadence in collaboration with TSIN external partners (i.e., monthly newsletters, social media, press releases, informational articles). Participate in state-level education groups and initiatives as necessary to advance the network's efforts.

Support TSIN Programming

Support recruitment of TSIN programs through marketing and communication channels while providing targeted assistance to Relationship Managers needing support with marketing and communication efforts. Work closely with Relationship Managers to identify communication needs, and contribute to monthly learning webinars and other events hosted by TSIN. Assist with developing concept papers, proposals, and state-level highlights to share with funders, over social media, in newsletters, and to enrich TSIN learning including providing data visuals.

Responsibilities

Lead Special Event Planning for TSIN

Event planning, design and production within specified time limits for large-scale conferences. Organize facilities/venues and event details such as decor, catering, entertainment, parking, location, attendee registration, equipment, learning sessions, promotional material etc. Proactively handle any arising issues and troubleshoot any emerging problems on event days. Conduct pre- and post – event evaluations and report on outcomes and market research, identify event opportunities that will generate interest for intended audiences.

Key Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in public relations, marketing, business disciplines or a related field. 2-5 years of relevant experience in marketing, communications, or similar field. Highly adaptable within a collaborative work environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Exceptional organizational skills and creativity. Strong computer skills and graphic design experience are a plus. A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing various projects concurrently. Self-starter, able to work independently as well as with a team. Knowledge and understanding of conference application design and implementation preferred. Occasional travel is expected (i.e., 15% of the time).

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a relevant field.
