Summary of Position:

The individual is responsible for cleaning the Head Start/Early Head Start classrooms and other premises, assisting with maintenance work during the day and performing other related tasks. Individuals must communicate and work positively with the Transportation/Facilities Supervisor, custodial staff, teachers and other staff, children and parents. The individual is responsible for generating a cleaning schedule to communicate changes that may occur. To provide a safe and healthy environment for the children the individual must always be alert by checking the school premises to ensure the grounds are safe and debris-free of hazardous materials or objects. The individual is responsible for building maintenance and repairs and ground keeping duties, as well as responding to the priorities of staff and students.


The Santo Domingo Early Childhood Learning Center is looking for a self-motivated employee that is a highly critical thinker and problem solver; capacity to effectively implement health/safety protocols, responsible for maintaining building, facility grounds, and equipment. Perform minor repairs and/or replacement of plumbing and electrical fixtures, devices, and appliances, heating and ventilation systems, painting, and dry all repairs. Must have excellent people skills.



Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Possess work experience in housekeeping/custodial work and have at least one (1) year of experience as a maintenance person including minimal knowledge of appropriate machines and tools.
  • Must have personal vehicle, be willing to obtain a CDL and provide transportation for children and staff.
  • Must be willing to obtain certification in plumbing, HVAC, basic electrical equipment.
  • Must be willing to become CPR Certified.
  • Must have good communications and written skills.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must obtain a physical exam and food handler's certificate.
  • Must satisfactorily pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle check.
