As a key member of the custodial team, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring a pristine and secure environment for students, staff, and the community at the designated location. This role includes overseeing and guiding fellow custodians while conducting regular inspections.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be expected to achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Maintain cleanliness in all designated areas as instructed by the immediate supervisor, adhering to established protocols.
- Ensure custodial tasks are executed efficiently and safely, enhancing the overall safety and cleanliness of the environment.
- Follow local regulations and APS guidelines for the proper storage and disposal of supplies, chemicals, and waste; handle chemicals safely in accordance with guidelines.
- Perform floor maintenance, including sweeping, mopping, and snow removal as necessary.
- Vacuum carpeted areas and conduct spot cleaning as required.
- Assist with minor maintenance tasks and other custodial duties as needed.
- Report emergencies, vandalism, and other issues to the immediate supervisor promptly.
- Manage access to facilities by opening and closing gates and buildings, and inspecting property for security.
- Safeguard assigned keys and adhere to APS policies regarding the security of school facilities.
- Move furniture and equipment as required, seeking assistance when necessary.
- Properly maintain and store custodial equipment and supplies in line with APS policy.
- Set up and dismantle furniture for events as directed by the supervisor.
- Document and report any accidents or hazardous conditions to the appropriate personnel without delay.
- Perform outdoor maintenance tasks, including landscaping and equipment operation, in a safe manner.
- Be available for emergency work or overtime as required.
- Regulate heating and cooling systems to ensure comfort and efficiency.
- Regularly check that all exits and safety features are functioning correctly.
- Conduct inventory checks and submit requests for necessary supplies and equipment.
- Coordinate with the supervisor on work orders and performance evaluations.
- Assess work orders to prioritize tasks and assist in scheduling duties.
- Supervise and assign tasks to custodial staff, ensuring compliance with APS standards.
- Inspect custodial tools and equipment for proper operation and maintenance.
- May be required to perform snow removal and de-icing as needed.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to adapt, organize, and solve problems effectively.
- Interpersonal skills to engage with diverse populations in person and over the phone.
- Capability to meet deadlines and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Proficiency in measuring and using measurement tools accurately.
- Aptitude for identifying emergencies and reporting them to the appropriate personnel.
- Basic reading and math skills.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of Head Custodian Workshop.
- Three years of experience in custodial operations.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Completion of the custodial training program, including mandatory asbestos awareness training.
