As a Head Facility Custodian, you will be responsible for ensuring a pristine and secure environment for students, staff, and the community at your designated location. You will also oversee and guide other custodial staff, conducting regular inspections to maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Perform cleaning duties in all areas as directed by a supervisor, adhering to established protocols.
  • Ensure custodial tasks are executed efficiently and safely, enhancing the overall safety and cleanliness of the premises.
  • Follow local regulations and APS guidelines for the proper storage and disposal of supplies, chemicals, and waste; handle chemicals in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Sweep and mop floors, walkways, and porches, and manage snow removal as necessary.
  • Vacuum carpeted areas and conduct spot cleaning as required.
  • Undertake additional custodial and minor maintenance tasks in various areas as requested.
  • Report emergencies, vandalism, and other urgent issues to the immediate supervisor.
  • Open and close facilities, inspecting doors, windows, and property for security.
  • Safeguard assigned keys and comply with APS policies regarding the security of school buildings and grounds.
  • Move furniture, supplies, and equipment as needed, requesting assistance when necessary.
  • Maintain, transport, and store custodial equipment and supplies according to APS standards.
  • Set up and dismantle tables, chairs, and bleachers as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Report any accidents, hazardous conditions, or malfunctioning equipment promptly.
  • Perform outdoor maintenance tasks such as watering plants, mowing lawns, and trimming shrubs.
  • Provide emergency services or overtime work as required.
  • Regulate heating and air conditioning systems for optimal performance.
  • Regularly check that all exits and panic bars are functioning correctly.
  • Conduct inventory checks and submit requests for supplies and equipment.
  • Collaborate with the supervisor on work orders, assignments, and performance evaluations.
  • Review work orders to prioritize tasks and assist in developing work schedules.
  • Direct and assign custodial staff, inspecting facilities regularly to ensure compliance with APS standards.
  • Inspect custodial tools and equipment for proper maintenance and operation.
  • May be required to manage snow and ice on walkways as needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Interpersonal skills for engaging with diverse populations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using measuring devices accurately.
  • Capability to identify and report emergency situations.
  • Basic reading and mathematics skills.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of Head Custodian Workshop.
  • Three years of experience in custodial operations.
  • Valid New Mexico driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Completion of the custodial training program, including mandatory asbestos awareness training.
