Ohio University Regional Campuses invites applicants for Visiting Assistant Professor of Instruction in Recreation and Sport Services. This is a non-tenure track visiting one-year position beginning August 2024.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Serving as program coordinator for the Recreation and Sport Services program based in Zanesville, Ohio. Teaching undergraduate courses in the undergraduate curriculum for the Recreation and Sport Services program described below. Providing academic advising to undergraduate students in the program across each of the regional higher education campuses. Assisting in undergraduate recruitment and retention activities. Traveling to each of the five regional campuses on average once a semester. Serving on program, departmental and college committees. Providing service to the university, community, and profession. Courses in areas related to recreation and sport services that the faculty member in this position would be expected to teach at the undergraduate level may include but are not limited to the following:

1) Introduction to Parks, Recreation, and Leisure Studies
2) Skill Development in Recreation and Sport Services
3) Ethics and Risk Management in Recreation and Sport Services
4) Inclusive Recreation
5) Festival and Special Event Operations and
6) Recreation Programming

Candidates who have the capacity to help develop new courses applicable to preparing students for careers in the recreation and sport services field are preferred. In addition, preference will be given to those candidates who have direct experience working in the recreation and sport services field, evidence of industry and agency relationships, and who can demonstrate a commitment to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching.

The Recreation and Sport Services program is housed in the Department of Recreation, Sport Pedagogy, and Consumer Sciences in The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education and this program is available only to students of the Regional Higher Education (RHE) campuses. Established in 1946, RHE provides access to degree programs for commuting students throughout southeastern Ohio. Students attend classes at regional campuses in Chillicothe, Ironton, Lancaster, St. Clairsville, and Zanesville, or access classes through distance technologies. Minimum Qualifications Applicants must have earned at minimum a master’s degree in Parks and Recreation or a closely related field at the time of application.
A demonstrated record of successful college/university teaching experience at the undergraduate level.

Commitment to experiential learning and the use of instructional technology in classroom & online environments.
Evidence of management and leadership experience in the field of recreation and sport services. Preferred Qualifications Doctorate degree is preferred. Department ZNSVL Health and Human Services
