Import/Export Compliance Administrator

Want to be part of a team that's leading the future of aviation? Universal Avionics seeks a highly detailed global trade professional to run point for our compliance administration activities. As UA's Import/Export Compliance Administrator, will have knowledge and experience in global trade, especially in Export Control and with the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) Export Administration Regulations (EAR) related to Dual-Use items.
At UA, you will be responsible for the day-to-day Import-Export Trade Compliance processes and procedures globally as we streamline our processes and procedures, produce necessary reports for governmental entities and our worldwide customers. You will work closely with stakeholders across the company to develop and maintain the infrastructure required to ensure regulatory compliance, assist with classifications, answer questions, and help cross-functional teams worldwide.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Responsible for Trade Compliance at Universal Avionics' Tucson and Atlanta sites in accordance with processes and procedures of Universal Avionics' and applicable rules, regulations, and laws.
- Oversee the accurate and timely completion of import and export documentation, and work with shipping and other departments to maintain organized and auditable records of all trade-related transactions in accordance with processes and procedures of Universal Avionics' and applicable rules, regulations, and laws.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as supply chain, logistics, legal, finance, and other departments to integrate compliance requirements into business processes and assist as needed with day-to-day questions and concerns.
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert on Import/Export compliance for current business systems (Infor/MK Denial, etc.) and future development, with an emphasis on Export Control.
- Stay current on national and international trade regulations, including but not limited to Import/Export controls, sanctions, and customs regulations affecting UA products and services.
- Work with the Legal Department to train departments and provide assistance with identifying correct ECCNs and other information for new products.
- Manage Deemed Exports, Technology Exports, and Temporary Exports.
- Stay informed about industry best practices and technological advancements in trade compliance. Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains.
- Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships by developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others internally and externally, and maintaining them over time.
- Work with company business and ERP systems (e.g., INFOR LN, Salesforce, MK Denial, etc.), their representatives and internal Universal Avionics' groups to fully utilize such internal systems to provide beneficial assistance to compliance matters and optimize efficiency.
- Suggest realistic ways to improve and streamline processes and procedures within Universal Avionics, given your experience and knowledge.

Education and/or Experience
- Ability to communicate succinctly yet completely verbally, via email and in person in a timely and complete manner any issues of concern
- Ability to isolate real issues from noise and resolve (including corrective action to prevent needless repetition) or escalate as needed in a timely and complete manner
- Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Trade, or related field desired
- 5+ Years Trade Compliance Experience. Certification in trade compliance is a plus.
- Experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government agencies.
- Strong understanding of international trade regulations and customs laws, particularly as it relates to EAR Dual-Use items.
- Strong understanding of, and experience with, the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), including determining Export Control Classification Numbers, use of the Commerce Control List (CCL), and managing export licenses and exceptions.
- Strong understanding of, and experience with, the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) Codes and Schedule B Codes
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills to convey complex regulatory information to various stakeholders in a simple, straightforward manner.
- Ability to read and interpret documents, including customer documents, as required by internal stakeholders.
- Must be able to understand quality standards, methods and reporting as required.
- Must be secure enough in their communication skills to raise the white flag and escalate to their manager when needed when a deadline may not be met or workload may be overloading to seek assistance before a ball is dropped.
- Exceptional time management skills. Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Superior attention to detail and high level of organization and accuracy in record-keeping.
- Ability to successfully engage, lead and influence individual and team discussions and meetings. Sincere follow-thru on open issues and reasoned fixes from repetitious issues.
- Strong ability to work well with peers and colleagues from other departments, parent and partner companies, third parties (including customers, and other companies) in a proactive and constructive manner.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
- ERP system intermediate experience
- Experience with dedicated global trade management software desired.
- Experience submitting Electronic Export Information (EEI) to the Automated Export System (AES) is desired.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business, correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Consistent with educational expectations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with many variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
