About Us
Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) is a national nonprofit making sure that No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town. We build and deliver beds to children in need through over 350 local chapters across the U.S. As our impact and footprint continue to grow, we are seeking a National Grants Manager to lead our Grants Team, drive operational excellence, and steward a multi-million-dollar funding portfolio that fuels our mission.
Position Overview
The National Grants Manager leads a team of 5–6 full-time and part-time grant writers, while also managing a personal portfolio of assigned chapters. This position combines servant leadership with hands-on grants management, ensuring both team success and individual accountability. The ideal candidate will bring proven experience managing $4M–$5M+ in annual awards, a collaborative leadership style, and a passion for helping children thrive.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership (50%)
- Lead, mentor, and coach the Grants Team, fostering a culture of service, collaboration, and excellence.
- Manage team workload, priorities, and performance metrics tied to proposal success and reporting compliance.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures, templates, and training resources for consistent grant quality.
- Build strong partnerships with internal teams — Finance, Marketing, and Chapter Support — to streamline workflows and data accuracy.
Hands-On Grant Management (30%)
- Maintain a personal portfolio of assigned states and chapters; research, write, and submit grant proposals for corporate, foundation, and government funders.
- Prepare budgets, coordinate program data, and ensure compliance with all reporting and post-award requirements.
- Track opportunities, submissions, and awards in SHP's CRM and grants platforms (Instrumentl, Salesforce/DonorPerfect, etc.).
Cross-Functional Collaboration (20%)
- Partner with the Chapter Support Center (CSC) to identify high-potential chapters and strengthen local grant readiness.
- Work with Marketing and Communications to align impact storytelling with funder requirements.
- Coordinate with Finance to ensure proper fund classification, reporting, and audit readiness.
- Provide leadership updates and forecasts to the Executive Team and Board committees.
Success Metrics
- Annual awards portfolio of $4M–$5M+ sustained or grown.
- 95%+ on-time submissions and post-award reports.
- Scalable tools and templates used organization-wide.
- High team engagement and retention driven by servant-leadership culture.
Qualifications
Required:
- 5–7 years of proven experience in grant writing and management with multi-million-dollar annual portfolios.
- 2–3 years of experience leading a grants or development team.
- Demonstrated servant-leadership approach—empowering team members and removing barriers to their success.
- Strong proposal writing, budgeting, and reporting skills.
- Experience with grants management systems (e.g., Instrumentl, Foundant, Salesforce, DonorPerfect, etc.).
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
- Deep commitment to SHP's mission and values.
Preferred:
- Experience supporting affiliate or chapter-based nonprofit models.
- Government grant experience (federal, state, or local).
- Strong data literacy—able to translate program outcomes into funder-ready narratives.
- Understanding of donor engagement and reclassification between donations and grants.
Work Setup
- Remote position within the U.S. (core hours aligned with Mountain or Central Time preferred).
- Light travel (≤10%) for team retreats, chapter visits, or funder meetings.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience mentoring and developing a professional grant writer team (coaching, career pathways, QA standards, and performance metrics).
- Track record building training programs, playbooks, and templates that lift team-wide win rates.
- Familiarity with national nonprofit partnerships and reporting frameworks.
- Advanced Excel or CRM reporting skills.
- Ability to thrive in a mission-driven, fast-growth nonprofit culture.
- Sense of humor, humility, and passion for teamwork.
