Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive mental health services, including psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and therapy, within a variety of clinical settings. This role offers an opportunity to work with diverse patient populations, including children, geriatrics, and individuals with complex behavioral health needs. The PMHNP will utilize advanced clinical skills and knowledge of psychiatric pharmacology, trauma-informed care, and behavioral health to improve patient outcomes. Experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, and eClinicalWorks is preferred. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical documentation standards is essential.

Duties

  • Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments and develop individualized treatment plans for patients across outpatient, inpatient, and specialty care settings.
  • Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications, including psychopharmacology interventions.
  • Provide therapy and counseling services tailored to patients' mental health needs.
  • Collaborate with physicians, social workers, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive care.
  • Perform patient education on medication adherence, lifestyle modifications, and coping strategies.
  • Utilize telehealth platforms to deliver remote mental health services when appropriate.
  • Document all patient interactions accurately in EMR/EHR systems such as Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks.
  • Monitor patient progress through vital signs assessment, behavioral observations, and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical research projects, and adherence to NCQA standards.
  • Ensure infection control practices are maintained during all patient interactions.

Experience

  • Valid Nurse Practitioner license with certification in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMHNP).
  • Proven experience in behavioral health settings with diverse populations including pediatrics (experience with children and neonatal units preferred), geriatrics (memory care/dementia care), or acute care environments such as Level I Trauma Centers or emergency rooms.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of clinical procedures including IV infusion, medication administration, suturing, venipuncture, catheterization, airway management, spinal tap procedures, and sterile processing techniques.
  • Experience working with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR systems) such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth.
  • Knowledge of psychopharmacology including botulinum toxin treatment for certain conditions is advantageous.
  • Background in trauma-informed care (Level II trauma center experience), hospice & palliative medicine or post-acute care is a plus.
  • Skills in diagnostic evaluation using ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding for billing purposes.
  • Ability to perform physical examinations and vital signs assessment accurately.
  • Experience working with people with developmental disabilities or disabilities requiring specialized behavioral health interventions.
