Duties

• Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments, including patient history, mental status examinations, and physiological evaluations to inform diagnosis and treatment plans.
• Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, ensuring appropriate medication administration, monitoring for side effects, and adjusting treatments as necessary.
• Provide psychotherapy interventions such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and other evidence-based modalities tailored to individual needs.
• Collaborate with physicians, social workers, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
• Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation of patient encounters, treatment plans, and progress notes.
• Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, medication management, and coping strategies to empower self-care.
• Participate in clinical research initiatives to advance psychiatric practices and contribute to quality improvement projects aligned with NCQA standards.
• Manage urgent psychiatric crises through triage protocols, de-escalation techniques, and emergency interventions within hospital or outpatient settings.
• Engage in telehealth consultations to extend mental health services across diverse geographic locations while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Stay current on the latest developments in psychopharmacology, behavioral health therapies, and trauma-informed care practices.

Requirements

• Valid state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner with certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health (PMHNP-BC or equivalent).
• Demonstrated experience administering injections and managing medication therapies for psychiatric conditions.
• Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth for efficient medical documentation and coding including CPT and ICD coding standards.
• Strong knowledge of physiology, pharmacology, and diagnostic evaluation techniques relevant to behavioral health.
• Experience working with diverse populations including children, geriatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia care needs.
• Ability to perform physical examinations when necessary and manage acute pain or behavioral crises effectively.
• Familiarity with telehealth platforms for remote patient assessments and follow-up care delivery.
• Excellent communication skills for patient education, team collaboration, and case management activities.
• Knowledge of HIPAA compliance standards to ensure confidentiality of medical records and sensitive information.
• Prior experience in inpatient or outpatient settings such as hospitals (Level I/II trauma centers), nursing homes, assisted living facilities or hospice & palliative medicine is highly desirable.
• Additional skills in areas like suturing, IV infusion therapy, sterile processing techniques or infection control are advantageous but not mandatory.
