HR–Payroll Specialist

Summary

The HR–Payroll Specialist is responsible for accurately and efficiently processing administrative and operational payrolls. This role ensures compliance, supports employees with payroll-related inquiries, and maintains the integrity of payroll data within the HR/Payroll system.

General Responsibilities

  • Process payroll using an integrated HR/PR system, including time entry, balance verification, and pay rate validation.
  • Create and update employee tax changes and review system edit reports.
  • Produce, audit, and process assigned payrolls in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of union contracts and prepare union benefit and third-party payments.
  • Respond to payroll inquiries with a high level of customer service; research and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Document and update payroll processes and ensure accuracy across formats.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).

Experience

  • 1–2 years of general accounting or related financial experience.
  • 1–3 years of payroll experience using a mainframe or client-server HR/payroll system (strongly preferred).
  • Mandatory Preference:
    Candidates with
    stronger knowledge and experience in the marine sector
    are highly preferred due to the position's support of marine-related business units.

Technical Proficiency

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with
    Oracle Payroll HCM
    and
    ADP Smart Compliance
    (preferred).

  • Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures.
