Overview  

The DSA/MID Ambassador teams play a vital role in living our organization's mission: to create a healthy, vibrant downtown for all. All Ambassadors are stewards of the public realm and help to make it an inviting and welcoming place for all. All Ambassador teams work with the following priority framework focusing on the "three Cs": Clean, Clear and Cared for. This means that all employees strive to maintain a visually appealing and safe environment for all by resolving clutter and disarray and caring for all people in the public realm in a friendly and positive manner. The downtown public realm should be high quality and consistent, demonstrated through attentive oversight of the details in the public realm space and genuine care and concern for the people in the space. 

Position Overview 

Clean Team Assistant Supervisor is responsible for providing field supervision and support to ambassadors to ensure the sidewalks, curbs, and other areas of the 300 square blocks of Seattle's Metropolitan Improvement District, spanning from Denny Way to Pioneer Square and I-5 to the Waterfront are clean and free of litter, trash, and other forms of debris.  

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, selecting, orienting, and training employees, and developing personal growth opportunities. 
  • Identify and report city or MID related issues, such as litter or graffiti, using a handheld device. 
  • Identify and report conditions that adversely impact the downtown area or those living, working, or visiting the downtown area. 
  • Resolve customer complaints via phone or email. 
  • Ensure that all employees have the necessary equipment and supplies to perform their duties. 
  • Provide sanitation cleanup of alleys and sideways using a truck equipped with a power washer.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and/ or equipment to increase efficiency of maintenance.
  • Address performance or behavior concerns through coaching, training and/or corrective action to ensure desired performance is achieved.
  • Ability to coach, mentor and supervise individuals who may or may not have had a past criminal background or addiction challenge.
  • Monitors employee activities to ensure performance standards and productivity levels are maintained. These patrols are provided by walking, driving a vehicle, or riding a bike.
  • Evaluate employee work habits to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Conduct uniform and personal appearance inspections of all Cleaning Ambassadors
  • Assist the supervisor in conducting formal performance evaluations.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Ability to consistently exemplify MID/DSA core values: Collaboration, Perseverance, Innovation, Excellence, and Integrity. 
  • Ability to demonstrate customer service experience and effective leadership skills.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with emphasis on emotional intelligence
  • Ability to work in all public spaces in the downtown area.
  • Required to maintain a clean and neat appearance. 
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License, preferred, as well as able to be insured by organization insurance carrier.
  • Knowledge of Downtown Seattle and its community a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of maintenance equipment is a plus. 
  • Basic knowledge of Windows, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is a plus. 

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

Work Environment - Work outdoors for the entirety of each shift in all weather conditions, handling potentially hazardous waste. 

Physical Demands - Standing, walking, bending, sitting 8-10 hours a day, holding, carrying, and operating leaf vacuums, blowers, and power washers. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Operating ATLVs and Green Machines.  

Employment Details 

DSA is committed to internal and market equity. The hourly range for this position is $25.00-$31.00. Salary is determined based on internal and market equity, internal and market data/salary ranges, and the applicant's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. We will hire at the beginning of the salary range to allow future salary growth based on an employee's performance, professional development, and increases in responsibilities and duties. Team 8: Thurs-Sun [Thurs-Fri 6:30 am- 5 pm [Sat-Sun 7 am- 5:30 pm]
