Bodega Bay, United States Avela Full time
Job DescriptionJob DescriptionAvela is a Nobel Prize winning platform for families to navigate their child's educational journey. Parents can find, apply, register, and pay for school and programs for their children, all from a common application system with saved profiles. Avela also powers backend admissions and operational workflows, making it easy for schools, districts, and educational providers to equitably serve students. We're like "OpenTable for Education" or "Mindbody for Schools."Role

We have a big vision and are making great progress towards it – we are known in the space, have large customers across dozens of major cities, and an amazing team of technologists and practitioners – and now we're investing in the Marketing team to accelerate our growth.

Avela is looking for a talented, versatile marketer to join our small but growing team. As our second marketing hire, you will partner with leaders across the company and industry to build our brand and grow our pipeline. Reporting to the Marketing Lead, you will co-own the entire marketing playbook – from planning and development to execution and performance measurement – with direct responsibility for demand generation activities, including paid advertising.

Location We're a semi-remote company with hubs in San Francisco and Boston. The San Francisco hub includes the CEO, Marketing Lead, and Sales Lead, so we strongly prefer candidates living in the SF Bay Area to facilitate in-person collaboration and social connection.Responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity to directly impact our company's growth trajectory and take on a diverse range of responsibilities, including:

  • Running multi-channel campaigns
  • Managing events and conferences
  • Building demand-generation programs
  • Growing and engaging our social media presence
  • Developing high-impact content and collateral

While this is a generalist position, we're looking for someone with a strong background and love for demand-gen and digital marketing, but depending on your skills and career aspirations, there's room to take on new challenges in additional areas you're passionate about. This is a hands-on role that requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced, startup environment, can work independently, and excels at juggling multiple priorities.

Specific Example Tasks:

  • Build Lead Lists - Identify customers matching Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) and create lists with contact info for outbound targeting using tools like LinkedIn, RocketReach, and district websites.
  • Cold Outreach - Write and send highly targeted cold emails to prospects and collaborate with team members to scale your efforts.
  • Website - Co-manage our website content and copy, including updating with latest messaging and positioning.
  • Social Media - Create and post content regularly, but also develop and execute a broader plan to grow our following.
  • Webinars - Organize webinar series with speakers, build and execute campaigns to ensure registrations, share recording with mailing lists.
  • Content - Write and/or repurpose content for our blog, social media, and nurture emails.
  • Conferences - Manage our event calendar, event sponsorships, booth setup, and coordinate attendance and post-event follow-ups.
  • Sales Enablement - Answer questions from sales team, provide collateral and materials.
Qualifications
  • Experience: 4–8 years in marketing, with exposure to multiple functions (e.g., product marketing, content creation, demand generation, communications, design, events, advertising, and social media), and strong expertise in the areas of demand-gen and digital marketing preferred.
  • You should have examples of campaigns you have come up with, the creative you've built and trafficked, as well as the results and learnings.
  • You have managed event participation from securing sponsorships, pre-event outreach, onsite booth management and lead-gen, and post-event follow-up and measurement.
  • Execution: Proven ability to take projects from concept to completion, managing timelines, stakeholders, and outcomes effectively.
  • Skills: You are somewhat of a Swiss Army Knife in that you can plan campaigns, manage projects, write copy, handle some design work, build and present reports, and represent the company publicly.
  • Flexibility: Comfort with ambiguity, working independently in a dynamic environment, and juggling competing priorities with ease.
  • Tech Savviness: Experience with the tools we use like HubSpot, Canva, and Asana, to name a few.
  • Travel: Ability to travel domestically a few times per quarter for events and team gatherings. Must live within 45 minutes of a major airport (e.g. SFO, OAK, BOS).
  • Industry Background: Familiarity with the education and/or edtech space is a nice-to-have.
Why Join Us?
  • Impact: Play a pivotal role in shaping the future of a mission-driven company at the forefront of educational innovation.
  • Autonomy: Enjoy the freedom to own your projects while having the support of a collaborative team.
  • Growth: Expand your skill set, take on new challenges, and grow your career as Avela scales.
  • Flexibility: Work remotely with occasional in-person collaboration opportunities.

If this sounds like the perfect opportunity for you, we'd love to hear from you
