Job Title: Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)
Reports To: Director of Nursing Services (DNS)
Job Location: Seattle, WA
Hours/Schedule: Full-time, Exempt

The Assistant Director of Nursing supports the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, developing, and overseeing the overall operations of the Nursing Service Department. This includes ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal standards and regulations, established facility policies, and procedures as directed by the Administrator and Medical Director to provide quality care.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NURSING:

  • Interprets and communicates policies and procedures to nursing staff, ensuring proper implementation.
  • Participates in admission decisions as indicated, acting as the Assistant Director of Nursing and maintaining facility standards.
  • Engages in daily/weekly management meetings regarding census changes, resident status, complaints, or concerns.
  • Oversees licensed nurses’ competencies and ensures timely completion, as part of the Assistant Director of Nursing role.
  • Evaluates work performance of all nursing personnel, implementing discipline as per operational policies.
  • Participates in QAPI, facility assessments, and committees as the Assistant Director of Nursing, including performance improvement activities.
  • Ensures compassionate, quality care and nursing supervision, providing adequate staff coverage, cleanliness, and resident functionality.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to resolve issues and improve service quality as the Assistant Director of Nursing.
  • Manages nursing schedules to meet resident needs, regulatory and budget standards.
  • Assists with nursing staff time clock and attendance monitoring, upholding the Assistant Director of Nursing responsibilities.
  • Participates in the recruitment, hiring, and termination of nursing personnel.
  • Observes nursing care to ensure resident needs are being met, embodying the Assistant Director of Nursing’s commitment to high-quality care.
  • Develops in-service education to keep nursing staff updated and knowledgeable.
  • Promotes teamwork, respect, and effective communication among nursing staff.
  • Implements infection control programs per current guidelines, in line with Assistant Director of Nursing responsibilities.
  • Participates in budget management for nursing, medical, and central supplies.
  • Prepares for and participates in inspection surveys, including survey response planning and mock survey exercises.
  • Communicates with residents, medical staff, families, and team members, coordinating care as the Assistant Director of Nursing.
  • Oversees resident incidents, identifying any unusual occurrences and reporting them to the Director of Nursing or Administrator.
  • Monitors for potential abuse or neglect, participates in investigations, and promotes a safe work environment as the Assistant Director of Nursing.
  • Provides direct nursing care when necessary.
  • Acts in an administrative role in the absence of the Director of Nursing or Administrator.
  • Other duties as assigned, aligning with the Assistant Director of Nursing’s commitment to high standards of care.

ADDITIONAL TASKS FOR THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NURSING:

  • Ensures all residents are treated with dignity and respect, upholding the rights and well-being of residents as the Assistant Director of Nursing.
  • Adheres to facility policies, standards of conduct, and all state/federal regulations.
  • Maintains confidentiality of protected health information and fosters a safe environment.
  • Reports policy breaches, abuse, and compliance issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Participates in emergency drills, life safety protocols, and fulfills all assigned duties during emergencies.
  • Completes all required training and skills competencies as a condition of employment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NURSING:

  • A Nursing Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience in a hospital, nursing home, or related healthcare setting, relevant to an Assistant Director of Nursing role.
  • Current, unrestricted RN license in the practicing state.
  • Knowledge of nursing practices, procedures, and long-term care regulations, aligned with Assistant Director of Nursing responsibilities.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NURSING:

  • Proficiency in English.
  • Must exemplify teamwork and leadership as the Assistant Director of Nursing.
  • Understanding or willingness to learn diverse cultural nuances.
  • Ability to handle various interpersonal interactions and make independent decisions.
  • Physical ability to perform essential tasks and respond to emergency situations.
  • Compliance with facility health, safety, and occupational standards, as expected of the Assistant Director of Nursing.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS FOR ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NURSING

  • Pay: $100,000 - $145,000 per year

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The Assistant Director of Nursing role resides primarily in a temperature-controlled facility with occasional outdoor travel. It involves standing, sitting, walking, lifting, and exposure to healthcare-specific risks, such as blood, bodily fluids, and medical equipment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $128,380.00 - $145,000.00 per year
