The CARE Program is a Social Adult Day Program for older adults living with Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of Dementia. CARE provides a warm, safe, and stimulating environment to those who experience a range of various cognitive impairments and draws on a person-centered approach to offer arts-based socialization services and respite to caregivers and families. Reporting to the Program Director, the Assistant Director helps execute and implement our vision of delivering high quality care and socialization services to individuals living with late-stage dementia or a related disorder or disability. The Assistant Director is responsible for facilitating therapeutic activities and programming and ensuring effective program operations. In conjunction with the Director, and in their absence, the Assistant Director will lead the program and ensure a welcoming and inclusive space by fostering a teamwork approach among staff and volunteers.

The Assistant Director will:

  • Develop, facilitate and oversee suitable, creative and therapeutic programming for clients in person and virtually
  • Provide direct activity facilitation primarily in group settings, using a client centered approach and adaptive and accessible modalities based on the abilities and experiences of our clients
  • Conduct intake and assessments, exploring participant and caregiver needs and complete progress notes; following up with caregivers to ensure participants’ needs are met through effective care planning
  • Maintain documentation on the designated database by entering and updating client case notes, assessments, and attendance
  • Assist with the tracking of deliverables, levels of service, and ensure compliance with funding sources
  • Supervise, mentor and deploy volunteers and graduate level interns in their placements and across our programs as applicable
  • Assist with the development of the program’s monthly activities calendar and all other program materials including outreach and promotional materials to foster enrollment and growth in participation
  • Communicate with clients, caregivers, and volunteers of daily programming schedule and any anticipated new offerings and changes
  • Ensure effective program operations daily by supporting set up and break down, inventory of program supplies and materials, supporting meals and communicating with colleagues and volunteers
  • In the absence of the Program Director, assume responsibility for coordination of the program, including oversight of volunteers and interns
  • Collaborate with Lenox Hill Neighborhood House’s staff from multiple departments and disciplines as well as other community-based partners to maximize support and program offerings
  • Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Program Director

Qualifications:

A successful candidate for the role of Assistant Director is committed to working with older adults, particularly in support of those living with Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of Dementia, to improve their quality of life. The best candidate possesses excellent leadership, engagement, interpersonal, emotional intelligence, and clinical skills; expertise in facilitating person centered and arts based therapeutic supports and programming; and feels passionate and caring about supporting the CARE population. The candidate will be compassionate, energetic, organized and self-motivated, and be creative and thoughtful in the provision of programming and services for older adults. The candidate will demonstrate a strong attention to detail and organization, a high level of computer proficiency, the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, and have strong written and oral communication skills. The candidate must have the ability to respond sensitively to the needs of our clients and to work both independently and as part of a team. Master’s degree in social work, mental health counseling, creative arts therapy, public health, or related field required with relevant experience; LCAT, LMSW, MPH, LMHC, is ideal.
