Payroll Specialist

LHH is looking for a full-time Payroll Specialist to join our client-growing company in Seattle, WA. This position will be a 6-month contract that is fully onsite at the client location.
Job Summary:
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for the organization’s employees. This role involves handling all aspects of payroll administration, maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, and supporting the Finance and HR departments in payroll-related tasks. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of payroll processes and systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Processing
Prepare and process regular payroll cycles for hourly, salaried, and temporary employees, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and company policies.
Review and verify payroll data, including hours worked, tax withholdings, deductions, bonuses, and overtime payments.
Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information and communicating necessary adjustments.
Compliance and Record-Keeping
Ensure payroll practices align with federal, state, and local regulations, including minimum wage, overtime, tax withholdings, and garnishments.
Maintain accurate payroll records, including timekeeping records, wage adjustments, and benefits deductions.
Prepare and submit all required payroll tax filings and reports, ensuring timely compliance with tax authorities.
Employee Support
Serve as the main point of contact for employee payroll inquiries, providing timely and accurate responses regarding pay, deductions, and benefits.
Educate employees on payroll policies and procedures, as well as how to use self-service payroll systems where applicable.
System Management
Update payroll system information, including employee data, benefit changes, tax settings, and other relevant information.
Partner with IT and HR departments to troubleshoot payroll system issues, test updates, and implement new payroll technologies or systems as needed.
Reporting and Analysis
Generate regular and ad-hoc payroll reports, including labor cost analysis, tax summaries, and earnings reports, as requested by management.
Assist in auditing payroll records to ensure data integrity and to prepare for external and internal audits.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
Experience: 2-4 years of payroll experience; prior experience with [insert payroll software, e.g., ADP, Paycom, etc.] preferred.
Skills:
Strong understanding of payroll principles, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
Strong analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation.
Experience with multi-state payroll processing.
Knowledge of benefits administration and HR practices.
Compensation: $30-$32/hour DOE
